How much data you actually need
A typical Bermuda day runs on about 400MB to 1GB: maps to find the right bus stop, checking ferry departures, and sending pink-sand beach photos to people back home. If you video call every evening or upload footage from a wreck dive, plan for something closer to 2GB a day instead.
When you land
The only air gateway is L.F. Wade International (BDA) in St George's Parish, which sits at the far end of the island from Hamilton, so arrival always includes a taxi or a bus ride afterwards. Bermuda has no land border with anywhere. By sea, cruise ships berth at King's Wharf in the Royal Naval Dockyard, with some calling at Hamilton or St George's instead. Turn the line on in the terminal: the taxi queue and the bus timetables on routes 1 and 11 are things you end up checking the moment you step outside.
Where coverage changes
Service is solid along the inhabited spine of the island, from St George's through Hamilton out to Somerset and the Dockyard, including South Road along the beaches and the old Railway Trail that cyclists use. Where it genuinely goes is underground in Crystal and Fantasy Caves, out in the middle of the Great Sound while the ferry crosses, and on dive or fishing boats that run out to the reef line and the offshore wrecks, which are far enough from land to leave you with nothing at all.

Does a Caribbean or North America plan cover Bermuda?+
Do not assume it does. Bermuda is its own territory in the North Atlantic rather than part of the Caribbean Sea, and it is often not folded into a regional bundle just because the bundle is called Caribbean or North America. The only reliable check is to open the country list attached to the plan and look for Bermuda by name. If it is not spelled out there, choose a plan that names it explicitly instead of hoping the region covers it.
Can I rent a car in Bermuda?+
No. Visitors are not permitted to rent cars on the island. What you can hire is a scooter or one of the small two-seat electric vehicles; otherwise you use the buses, the ferries and taxis. In practice that means you will open maps and timetables far more often than on a normal island trip, and it is worth saving the last ferry of the day, because missing it turns into a long taxi ride around the island at a much higher fare.
Do the buses and ferries need an app to pay?+
This is not a city where everything is tapped through an app. Bus and ferry fares are paid with tickets or passes bought at the central terminal in Hamilton, at the ferry docks and from agents around the island. Ask on your first day what the current fare and pass options are and buy ahead, so you are not caught out at the stop. Your data helps far more with reading live departure times and planning connections than with paying.
When does a Bermuda eSIM start counting days?+
Most plans here start when the phone first connects to a network at the destination, so you can install in advance at home and switch it on after landing. Each plan page states its own rule.
Do I have to remove my home SIM?+
No. The eSIM is a second line, so you keep your home number for SMS OTP. Turn off roaming data on the home line and set the eSIM as the data line.
