Cheap eSIM in 2026: where to buy, and how to tell a cheap plan from a cheap-looking one

eSIMs are sold on brand sites, travel marketplaces, Thai shops and operators. A cheap plan shows in its cost per GB over the whole trip, and the headline price alone does not tell you.

Jawapan ringkas

  • You can buy an eSIM from brand sites, travel marketplaces such as Klook, Thai shops and Thai operators, and the channels differ in support, refund terms and phone number.
  • A genuinely cheap plan is judged by cost per GB over the trip together with validity, daily cap, top-up cost and hotspot rules, rather than by the headline price.
  • Short, light trips usually suit a small country GB plan, multi-country trips suit a regional plan, and you should be wary of sellers with unusually low prices or no named network.

Where eSIMs are sold

This guide is based on what each seller publishes as of October 2026, not on a test trip. This site sells eSIMs too, so the comparison is written to work for every channel.

Travel eSIMs are sold through four main channels.

  • Brand sites and apps, such as Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily, Ubigi and Yesim
  • Travel marketplaces such as Klook, which resell eSIMs from several suppliers
  • Thai online shops that resell QR codes from a supplier
  • Thai operators, such as AIS SIM2Fly and True/dtac GO Travel

A cheap plan versus a cheap-looking plan

The headline price tells only half the story. Before comparing, check these six things in the plan details.

  • Cost per GB over the trip: divide the current price by the GB you will really use, rather than the GB listed on the plan
  • Validity and when it starts: some brands count from connection at the destination, others from install
  • Daily cap and speed after it: Airalo's unlimited plans drop to 1 Mbps after 3GB a day, and Nomad Day Plans drop to 512 kbps
  • Country or region: a regional plan helps on a multi-country trip, while a single country is usually better served by a country plan
  • Top-up cost: Holafly no longer offers top-ups, Nomad add-ons start when the original plan expires, and Airalo and Saily have top-up packages
  • Hotspot: some plans cap it, for example Holafly's Japan page shows 1 GB a day
Daily caps, top-up rules and refund terms can change. The details quoted here were last checked in October 2026, so confirm them on the official site before buying.

Signs of a fake or doubtful seller

  • A price far below everyone else with no explanation, plus pressure to pay fast or before a deadline
  • No local network named, and no refund policy or terms of use
  • Payment only by personal transfer or chat, with no storefront or verifiable company
  • Sends a QR that was used before, or asks for your OTP or bank details

If you are unsure, buy from the brand's own site, a mobile operator or a platform with its own refund system, and keep your order records.

What to check before you pay

  1. 1Compare the price for your exact datesPrices change weekly, so use the same days and GB at every seller before comparing.
  2. 2Check your phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-lockedA locked phone may not accept another carrier's eSIM, and some sellers do not refund that case, such as Ubigi.
  3. 3Read the refund terms and install deadlineFor example, Nomad refunds within 30 days if not installed, and esimonline lets you request a refund within 14 days if not installed.

Buying a cheap eSIM safely

The best moment to buy is once you know your days and GB. Pick a plan that fits the trip, and keep your Thai SIM on for bank OTP SMS, since most travel eSIMs have no number. esimonline sells data-only plans too, and we are a seller ourselves, so compare our terms the same way as anyone else's.

  • Do not buy too early: Nomad needs activation within 60 days, and SIM2Fly and GO Travel MyPlan must be used abroad within 60 days
  • If you may need more data mid-trip, pick a seller that still offers top-ups

Soalan lazim

Where is the cheapest place to buy an eSIM?+

No channel is always cheapest, because prices change weekly. Enter the same days and GB at several sellers, then compare cost per GB including top-up costs and refund terms.

Is unlimited better value than a GB plan?+

It depends on use. Short, light trips rarely need unlimited, while heavy daily users may get better value, but many unlimited plans slow down after a daily threshold.

Is it safe to buy an eSIM from a shop that is not the brand?+

It can be, if the shop is verifiable and states its terms clearly. Refund terms and QR expiry usually come from the original supplier, so ask which network is used and how refunds work before paying.

Does a cheap eSIM come with a phone number?+

Mostly not, because they are data only. If you need calls from a number, look at a Thai operator roaming SIM that includes calls, such as SIM2Fly Ultimate.
