Do you need a visa to go to Vietnam? Thai passport holders are on the visa-exempt list of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and may stay up to 30 days without a visa. To stay longer, apply for an e-visa before departure, and only through the official Vietnamese government portal. Your passport also needs enough validity left.

How many days can Thais stay in Vietnam without a visa?
Thai citizens may stay in Vietnam for up to 30 days without a visa. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism lists Thailand among the bilateral visa exemptions, in the same 30-day group as Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore.
| Kumpulan | Stay without a visa | Applies to Thais? |
|---|---|---|
| Bilateral 30-day group (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore) | Up to 30 days | Ya |
| Filipina | Up to 21 days | Tidak |
| Brunei and Indonesia | Up to 14 days | Tidak |
| 45-day list (25 countries, Resolutions 44/NQ-CP and 229/NQ-CP) | Up to 45 days | No, Thailand is not on this list |
The 45-day right belongs to a different group of countries, not to Thais. Do not mix it up with news or posts that mention Vietnam allowing 45-day stays.

When should Thais apply for a Vietnam e-visa online?
Apply for an e-visa when you plan to stay longer than the visa-free period. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism tells travellers who want to stay beyond the exemption to apply for an e-visa before arrival.
- A trip planned for more than 30 days, such as a remote-work stay or a long multi-city route
- Travellers who want a visa valid for up to 90 days to give a longer window
- People who plan to enter and leave Vietnam several times within the visa period
The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism does not describe extending a visa-free stay inside Vietnam. If your plans may stretch, check the options on the official sites or with the Vietnamese immigration authority before your permitted days run out.

Which website is the official Vietnam e-visa portal?
The official portals are evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn. The Vietnam Immigration Department announced that the e-visa system has run on these two domains since 08:00 (GMT+7) on 11 November 2024.
The evisa.gov.vn page is titled Vietnam National Electronic Visa system and is meant for foreigners applying for an e-visa in person from outside Vietnam. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism tells travellers to check that the address ends in .gov.vn, because many look-alike agent sites exist.

Does Phu Quoc have a special visa rule?
Yes. Foreigners who fly directly into Phu Quoc International Airport from abroad, or who transit through the international transit lounge of a Vietnamese international airport, may stay on Phu Quoc Island for up to 30 days without a visa, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.
The rule covers Phu Quoc Island only. To go elsewhere in Vietnam you need a valid visa, an e-visa or another applicable exemption, which for Thais is the 30-day exemption.
How much validity must your passport have?
Aim for a passport valid for at least six months beyond your departure date from Vietnam, with at least two blank pages. This is the stricter reading of two official pages that differ.
- Vietnam National Authority of Tourism: valid at least six months beyond the entry date, with at least two blank pages
- Noi Bai International Airport: valid at least six months from the date of exit from Vietnam, with at least one blank page
- The safe approach is the stricter rule: more than six months after departure and two blank pages
