What AT&T says on its own site (checked 10 October 2026)
AT&T has two routes that matter here. The first is the International Day Pass for AT&T customers travelling outside the US: $12 a day on land, $6 for each additional line used the same day, and $20 a day on cruise ships. It requires an AT&T Unlimited plan and covers 210+ destinations. The second is eSIM by AT&T, for travellers visiting the US, Mexico and Canada.
For the Day Pass, AT&T's page says the 24-hour period starts at your first data use, text or call in an included destination, you pay only for the days you use, and one fee covers each 24 hours even across several destinations. Calls to the destination you are in, to other Day Pass destinations and back to the US carry no extra charge. On cruise ships you get unlimited talk and text with 500MB of data at best speed.
For eSIM by AT&T, AT&T's page says it sells unlimited data in 7, 15, 30, 90 and 180-day increments, with 5GB of hotspot data and then a maximum of 128kbps. AT&T may slow speeds when the network is busy. There is an optional unlimited talk and text add-on in the US. You download an app on iPhone or Android and top up in the app. The same page says there is no AT&T on-net coverage in some countries, including Canada.

Who should pick which
AT&T is the better fit when
- You are on AT&T Unlimited, away for a few days and need your US number; the Day Pass charges only for days used
- You are on a cruise; AT&T says it covers 400+ cruise ships
- You are visiting the US and need US calls and texts; eSIM by AT&T offers that add-on
A travel eSIM from esimonline.asia is the better fit when
- You are an AT&T customer on a long trip, where daily Day Pass fees add up; compare with our plan price for the same number of days
- You are not on an AT&T Unlimited plan, which the Day Pass requires
- You are visiting the US, need only data and would rather not install an app
- You want support in Thai or Chinese
Setup and switching steps
- 1Count the days you will really use dataThe Day Pass charges for every day with use, so know how many days you will use before comparing prices.
- 2Install our eSIM before you travelScan the QR from the email over Wi-Fi, or enter SM-DP+ and the code manually. Keep the AT&T line in the phone.
- 3Stop the Day Pass starting by accidentTurn off data roaming on the AT&T line and switch off automatic data switching, because AT&T says the 24-hour period starts at the first data use, text or call in a destination.
- 4Set the data line on arrivalTurn on our eSIM line, enable roaming for that line only and set it as the data line.
Common pitfalls
- Sending a text or making a call on the AT&T line and assuming it is free; first use in a destination can start a Day Pass period
- Forgetting extra lines; the Day Pass is $6 for each additional line used the same day
- Expecting AT&T's own network in Canada on eSIM by AT&T; AT&T says it has no on-net coverage there
- Going past 5GB of hotspot on eSIM by AT&T and being surprised by the 128kbps cap
