Sentosa Island Guide for Thai Travellers: Getting There, Universal Studios, Oceanarium and Beaches
How to reach Sentosa by monorail, boardwalk or cable car, what to see at Universal Studios and the new Oceanarium, plus a one-day plan.

إجابة سريعة
- Sentosa sits right next to HarbourFront, and you can reach it by the Sentosa Express monorail from VivoCity, on foot over the Boardwalk, or by cable car.
- Universal Studios Singapore deserves a full day, while a relaxed visit can combine the Oceanarium, a beach and an evening show.
- Singapore Oceanarium opened in July 2025 as the expanded successor of S.E.A. Aquarium, so older pages using the old name may be out of date.
What Sentosa is and how to plan it
Sentosa is a resort island off the southern coast of Singapore, a short hop from the city centre. It packs a theme park, an oceanarium, man-made beaches, restaurants and hotels into one place, which suits families, groups of friends and anyone who wants a break from city walking.
The island is not so small that you can walk everything in an hour: the Resorts World area, Siloso Beach and Tanjong Beach are well apart. Pick two or three main themes per day and use the monorail or the island buses to link them.

Getting to Sentosa
Most visitors start at HarbourFront MRT station on the North East and Circle lines, which connects directly to the VivoCity mall. From there you have three ways across.
| الخيار | Starts at | الأنسب لـ |
|---|---|---|
| Sentosa Express monorail | Inside VivoCity | Fastest, good for families and rainy days |
| Sentosa Boardwalk walkway | Walkway from VivoCity | Walkers who like harbour views |
| Cable car | Mount Faber or HarbourFront | City and harbour views, photo stops |
You can also take a taxi or Grab straight over the causeway, but vehicle access rules and island entry arrangements can change, so check the official Sentosa site before you go.

Universal Studios Singapore and Resorts World
Universal Studios Singapore sits inside Resorts World Sentosa and is divided into themed zones, with both thrill rides and areas for small children. Arrive near opening time to ride the popular attractions before queues build.
- Buy tickets from the official channel or a trusted seller, and save the QR code on your phone before you enter, because signal can get crowded inside.
- Prices, hours and special events vary by season, so use the latest schedule on the official site.
- The official app shows ride wait times and helps you decide where to go next.

Singapore Oceanarium
Singapore Oceanarium is the expanded version of the former S.E.A. Aquarium. It has many marine habitats and large viewing tanks, and works well for families with children and for afternoons when thunderstorms hit.

Beaches, SkyHelix and Wings of Time
There are three main beaches. Siloso has the most bars, restaurants and water activities. Palawan is the family option with shallow water and a suspension bridge to a small islet viewpoint. Tanjong is quieter and has beach clubs.
SkyHelix Sentosa is an open-air rotating seat that lifts you high for views of the island and the strait. Wings of Time is an evening light, water and laser show by Siloso Beach. Showtimes can change or pause, so check the latest schedule before planning dinner.
Inside the island you can use the Sentosa Express stops, the island buses and seasonal trams. Look at the map in the official app to see which stop is closest to your destination, and get off at the right one so you do not walk far in the sun.
One-day plan and family tips
- 1Morning: arrive before openingTake the monorail from HarbourFront, head to Resorts World and do the popular rides first.
- 2Midday: cool down and eatRest indoors, or visit the Oceanarium if it is hot or stormy.
- 3Afternoon: beach or SkyHelixStroll Palawan or Siloso, with sunscreen and water.
- 4Evening: show then head backWatch Wings of Time if it is running, then head back before the crowd leaves together.
With children, bring a foldable stroller, sunscreen, hats and a light rain layer. It is hot and humid all year and afternoon storms are common. Remember that eating and drinking are banned on MRT trains and in stations.
Practical rules and timing
Weekdays are much quieter than weekends and school holidays, so pick a weekday if you can. The northeast monsoon, roughly December to March, brings more rain, and some years see transboundary haze around August to October; check the PSI in the NEA myENV app.
- Vapes and e-cigarettes are illegal to bring in, buy or use in Singapore, including on the island.
- Smoke only in designated areas and do not litter.
- Carry a small bag with essentials only, since some rides require you to store belongings in lockers.
Staying connected on the island
Mobile coverage on the island is good in the park and on the beaches, though busy areas can slow down. Install an eSIM before flying, turn on data roaming for that line, and keep your Thai SIM for bank OTP texts. For the full preparation list, see “Singapore Trip Prep and Internet: eSIM or SIM, Plus a Checklist”.
