A port on steep hills: city beaches, harbour cranes, and villages stacked up the slope.

Gimhae Airport (PUS) lies west of the city and links by light rail into the subway network. Switch the eSIM on in the cabin, because the first thing you will do outside the terminal is check the connection onwards. Arriving on the high-speed train instead, you step out at Busan Station near the port and the older quarter, with the line live since Seoul; on the way down, the track threads a series of mountain tunnels that interrupt it repeatedly before the city reassembles the signal.

People come to Busan because they want the sea and a big city in the same trip — some on the high-speed train down from Seoul for a couple of nights, some flying straight in. The terrain is steep hills between bays, and enough streets climb that walking is harder work than the map implies. The commercial districts and the beachfronts are well served. What makes this city distinct is elevation: hillside villages and the tunnels cut through the ridges change the signal faster than flat ground ever does.

Along the big beaches and through the business districts the line is even. Parts of the coastal subway surface above ground, which gives you the view and a strong connection at the same time. The change comes in the hillside villages where houses stack in layers: narrow alleys and close walls push the map's position off and weaken the signal in particular lanes. The bay bridges and the open shoreline are excellent. Road tunnels bored under the ridges cut out briefly as you drive through.
A day here runs about 1–1.5GB, similar to Seoul but spent differently: you check the map to find the way up a slope and to work out which bus saves you the climb. Film festival week and high summer push it higher, with beach video going out as it is shot. If you will be crossing town by bus often, keep a domestic transit app open — the routes wind around the hills and the real journey time rarely matches the guess.
Korea Selatan plans work country-wide, Busan included.

Usable for most of the ride, but the route passes through a lot of mountain tunnels, so expect short interruptions at intervals. If you must join a call on board, plan for stumbles and download any documents beforehand. For messaging or music the gaps barely register.
The problem is elevation and stacked alleys rather than signal. Use a domestic map app, which knows about stairways and footpaths in far more detail, and follow the village's own waymarking, which is good. It also helps to navigate to a well-known café or viewpoint rather than dropping a pin in the middle of a lane.
A forecast app with wave and wind data helps, but the lifeguard flags and the local authority's notice are what actually govern whether swimming is open on a given day, and the permitted season shifts from year to year. Check that before building a whole day around getting in the water.
No — a country plan covers both cities and the train between them. Size it on the whole trip rather than city by city. Just allow a little extra for the travel day itself, when the map stays open and most people stream music for a few hours on the train.
