The other common ways in are the northern train, which stops at the station east of the Ping river, and long-distance coaches into Arcade bus terminal; both have normal service. If you come on the overnight train, the climbing section before Lampang drops in and out, so settle your accommodation details before you fall asleep.

Inside the square moat and around Nimmanhaemin the line is full and steady enough for a long video call. Things change where the road starts climbing Doi Suthep: the first bends are fine, but on the stretches where the mountain itself sits between you and the city, speed falls away and occasionally disappears. Hill villages with permanent residents usually come back into service because the community has its own mast. On the park's walking trails and at waterfalls tucked deep into a ravine, assume nothing until you are back up on a ridge.

As a visitor you will run through about 600MB to 1.2GB a day, because the town is small enough to walk and the map does not need to stay open. If you are here to work remotely the arithmetic is different in kind: an hour of video calling costs far more than people assume, and tethering a laptop all day puts you in whole gigabytes rather than hundreds of megabytes. Scanning to pay at the market and booking a cooking class barely register next to that.
