Overland, the crossings that matter are San Antonio del Táchira opposite Cúcuta in Colombia and Santa Elena de Uairén on the Brazilian side. Check the current status of any land border before you set out, as opening hours and rules change at short notice.

The network is densest in Caracas, Valencia and Maracaibo, but quality tracks the electricity supply closely: during a long outage a whole district can go quiet. Southern regions such as the Gran Sabana, Canaima where the Angel Falls trips start, the Los Roques islands and Amazonas state have effectively no usable mobile service. Keep contact numbers, maps and important documents saved offline on the device rather than in the cloud.

Charge everything whenever the power is on, carry at least one power bank, keep key numbers and addresses saved offline, and agree loose check-in windows with people at home rather than exact times you may not be able to keep.
What should I prepare for Canaima or the Gran Sabana?+
Plan on the assumption that you will be offline for several days. Before leaving the city, save the itinerary, your guide's name and number and your travel documents as files on the device, tell people at home how long you expect to be silent and when you will resurface, carry a power bank and a torch, and avoid relying on anything that needs an online verification step while you are out there.
