Which eSIM brand for the UK in 2026? Options for tourists and students
Tourists can usually get by on a data-only eSIM, while people studying for months usually need a UK SIM with a number. This guide separates the two cases.

Kort antwoord
- A visitor staying a few weeks at most can usually use a data-only eSIM; check that the plan's country list actually includes the United Kingdom.
- Some Europe plans include the UK and some do not, because the UK is outside the EU roaming rules, so check the country list every time.
- Students staying for months usually need a UK SIM with a number for the bank, GP registration and university, and use a travel eSIM only for the arrival days.
How this guide was written
The editorial desk wrote this from the plans, policies and help pages each brand publishes as of October 2026, not from a test trip. This site also sells eSIMs, so it appears as one option and is not placed first.
There are no price figures here because prices change every week. Compare the current price for your own dates.

UK networks
The main UK operators are EE, Vodafone, Three and O2 (Virgin Media O2). The eSIMs sold on this site use O2, 3, Vodafone and EE, varying by plan, and the plan page says which. Open the plan page of other brands the same way.
Our information is that UK 3G is being switched off or already gone, so the phone should support 4G or VoLTE. We have not confirmed this from an official page, so check with Ofcom.
Do Europe plans include the UK
The EU Roam like at home rules cover the 27 EU members plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine. The UK is not on that list, and the rules apply to subscribers with stable links to an EU/EEA country, so they do not cover Thai SIMs.
So each brand decides for itself whether a Europe eSIM includes the UK; some do and some do not. Open the country list on the plan page and look for United Kingdom. If the UK is your only or main stop, a country plan is usually the more direct choice.

Tourists and students need different things
| Punt | Tourist | Student staying months |
|---|---|---|
| Verblijfsduur | A few days to a few weeks | Several months or a year |
| Telefoonnummer | Usually not needed | Needed for the bank, GP registration, university |
| Option that fits | eSIM met alleen data | UK SIM with a number, plus a travel eSIM for the first days |
| Let op | The country list must include the UK | Continuous-roaming limits on travel eSIMs |
If you are going to study
Students who stay for months are asked for a UK phone number in several places, such as opening a bank account, registering with a GP and dealing with the university. A data-only travel eSIM has no number, so it suits the first days after arrival, before the UK SIM is ready.
Our sources do not cover each UK operator's monthly SIM plans, so we leave out details and conditions. Check the official sites of EE, Vodafone, O2 or Three for what a SIM-only plan needs and whether it can be set up before you travel. Travel eSIMs also have limits on long stays: Holafly caps continuous roaming in one destination at 90 days.

Options compared by plan model
| Optie | Plan model | Telefoonnummer | Conditions to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airalo | Country, regional and global packages | Mostly none, some plans include one | Top-ups on many eSIMs |
| Holafly | Unlimited by number of days | Geen | Continuous roaming up to 90 days; no top-ups |
| Nomad | Fixed GB, unlimited and Day Plans | A UK Voice plan exists, and it is non-refundable | Check that the UK is on the country list |
| Saily | Fixed-GB plans with top-ups | The virtual number offered is a US +1, not a UK one | The app has no Thai |
| Ubigi | Pakketten voor Prepaid data | Geen | Refund only before the QR is scanned |
| AIS SIM2Fly and True GO Travel | A separate Thai prepaid number, as eSIM or SIM | A Thai number, not a UK one | Use abroad within 60 days of opening; check the country list |
| This site (esimonline) | Priced in THB, no app, QR by email | None (data only) | Zelf terugbetaling aanvragen binnen 14 dagen als de eSIM niet is geïnstalleerd |
Before you buy and before you fly
- Check that the phone is not carrier-locked and supports eSIM
- Open the plan's country list and find United Kingdom
- See whether validity starts on install or on connection
- Keep the Thai SIM in the phone for bank OTP SMS
- Install the eSIM on Wi-Fi before boarding
If you go for unlimited, read the daily cap. Airalo drops to 1 Mbps after 3GB in 24 hours, and most Nomad Unlimited plans give 2GB a day of high speed, then about 1 to 2 Mbps. If you mostly use maps and chat, a small fixed-GB plan may be enough and you avoid paying for unlimited data you will not use.
On timing, Nomad auto-activates on day 60 after purchase and Ubigi's QR is valid for 6 months, so buy close to your travel date.
Veelgestelde vragen
Does a Europe eSIM work in the UK+
It depends on the plan. The UK is outside the EU roaming rules, so open the country list on the plan page and look for United Kingdom each time.
Should a student use a travel eSIM the whole time+
Usually not. Most travel eSIMs have no number, and some brands limit continuous roaming, for example Holafly at 90 days. A UK SIM with a number is the better main line.
Do Thais need a visa for the UK+
Yes, a Standard Visitor visa, because Thailand is on the visa national list and the UK ETA does not apply. Last checked October 2026; confirm on gov.uk.
