Cakupan dan jaringan

Jaringan mana yang mungkin digunakan sebuah paket, kecepatan yang bisa diharapkan, dan apa yang tidak bisa dijanjikan siapa pun.

Cakupan dan jaringan

Coverage attracts more loose promises than anything else in the eSIM market, and it is the section we deliberately write as flatly as possible. A plan page can tell you which countries the profile may attach in, which technologies the plan permits, and which networks the roaming agreements reach. It cannot tell you the speed you will get on one street in one city at three o'clock on a Saturday. The gap between those two things is the heart of the ten questions below.

One more idea to hold from the start: coverage does not depend on the plan alone. It is the product of three things lining up — what the profile is entitled to, which radio bands your handset supports, and what masts actually stand where you are standing. Miss any one and the user-facing result looks identical: nothing loads. The fixes, though, are completely different, so this page is mostly about helping you tell the causes apart before you go looking for a remedy.

What the network list on a plan page means

The networks listed are the ones that profile may use, not a promise of any particular one. The real choice comes from the supplier's roaming agreements combined with whatever your handset finds in that area at that moment. Two phones standing side by side can perfectly normally attach to different networks, and that is not a fault in the plan.

Where the list genuinely helps is in checking, before you buy, how many options exist in that country. Somewhere with several supported networks tends to behave more forgivingly, because if one is weak where you are there is a chance the phone finds another. Somewhere with a single supported network ties your whole experience to that one operator's quality.

What a plan page can state, and what nobody can

Why nobody can guarantee speed

Mobile speed is a moving value, and at least four of the things that move it are outside any plan seller's control: how many people share your mast in that minute, how far you are from it and what stands in between, what the building around you is made of, and which bands your particular handset model supports in that country. Once those four sit outside everyone's hands, any speed figure announced in advance is marketing rather than a commitment.

So we do not publish speed numbers as promises and we do not cite test results we did not produce. What we state is the technology a plan supports, which is a checkable fact drawn from the plan's own terms. If you see a seller guaranteeing a speed figure for international mobile data, the fair question is what happens when it is not delivered.

The thing that actually improves the experience is not hunting for whichever plan claims the highest speed — it is reducing what you need the connection for at critical moments: offline maps, boarding passes and accommodation documents downloaded before you leave.

5G needs three things at once

First, the plan has to permit 5G. Second, your handset has to support the bands actually used in that country — the step people skip most often, because the same model sold in different markets can carry different band support. Third, the spot you are standing in has to have 5G from the network you are attached to. Miss one and the phone falls back to 4G, which is enough for maps, messaging, video calls and most booking you do while travelling.

A 5G icon in the status bar does not by itself mean fast. It says the phone is attached to that technology; it says nothing about how many people share that cell or how quick the far end of your connection is. A 4G attachment on an uncrowded mast quite often feels smoother than 5G in a packed tourist district.

When to pick a network by hand, and how to do it safely

Manual network selection is genuinely useful in one situation: the phone has latched onto a weak network and will not move, while you know another network on the list is stronger where you are. Outside that, automatic mode usually beats human guesswork. The menu name varies by manufacturer and operating-system version, but it generally sits in the settings section dealing with the mobile network.

  1. 1Try the lighter fix firstToggle airplane mode for about ten seconds to force a full fresh search. That clears a phone stuck on a weak network often enough to be worth trying before any menu diving.
  2. 2Open network selection for the travel profileMake sure you are configuring the travel profile and not your home SIM. A phone with two lines keeps this menu separately for each of them.
  3. 3Switch off automatic and wait for the scanThe scan can take a minute or two, and the list it returns includes networks your profile has no right to use, so choose against the list on the plan page.
  4. 4Pick a network that is on the plan's listChoosing an unsupported one leaves you with no service at all, which looks like a broken phone when it is only a wrong pick.
  5. 5Test, then return to automaticLoad a page to confirm it works, then set it back to automatic once you move on. A locked network becomes a problem the moment you leave that operator's area.
Remember to switch back. A recurring case in our inbox is someone locking a network at the hotel and forgetting, then losing signal for an entire train journey out of the city while the plan itself is perfectly fine.

Reading the country list against your real route

Regional plans always carry names that sound broader than they are. Labels like Europe or Asia are marketing categories, not geographic boundaries. What binds is the country list printed on the plan page. Plenty of European bundles leave out the UK or Switzerland, and plenty of Asian ones leave out mainland China — the two cases that surprise people mid-trip more than any others.

The check that works is to write out the real route first, including every place the aircraft touches down and every country a train or coach passes through, then compare the plan's list line by line. An overnight layover is simultaneously when people most want a connection and what they most often forget to check.

Regional or country plan

There is no single answer here, because it turns on the shape of the trip rather than the quality of the plan. A route crossing several borders benefits from one profile that follows you throughout. A trip that lands in one country and stays there usually gets a better price per gigabyte from a country plan.

Kelebihan

  • One profile for the whole route, with no swapping or extra installs on the road
  • Less risk of being offline on border days, which are the days you need maps most
  • Simpler to administer for a group, since everyone carries the same thing

Kekurangan

  • The price per gigabyte is usually higher than the matching country plan
  • The country list may not match what the regional name implies
  • If plans change and you end up in one country, you paid for flexibility you never used

Outside the cities, up mountains, out on islands

National coverage on paper and reality on the road are different subjects. Every country has genuine gaps, particularly mountain roads, deserts, forest and small islands well offshore. Which network you happen to be attached to matters directly too, because operators inside the same country do not invest equally outside the cities.

What genuinely helps is offline preparation: download maps of the area beforehand, save the accommodation address as plain text, and keep the property's contact number on the device rather than inside an email that needs a connection to open. Travelling through remote areas assuming continuous signal is an avoidable risk that ten minutes of preparation removes.

On aircraft and cruise ships

The networks serving aircraft and ships at sea are separate satellite services, not the terrestrial networks a travel plan covers. Your travel profile cannot use them, and if your home SIM has roaming left on, attaching to one of those services can be extremely expensive at your home operator's rates.

Before boarding a ship or a flight, confirm that data roaming on your home SIM is off. This is one of the few places where a small oversight turns into a large bill — and it is a bill from your home operator, not from the plan you bought here.

Calls and texts: what a data plan does not include

Most plans sold to travellers are data-only, which means no phone number comes with them: you cannot place an ordinary call and no SMS arrives on that line. What still works is app-based calling over the data, and that covers what most travellers actually need.

The thing to plan for is the verification codes banks and services send by SMS. If you need them, leave your home SIM enabled for calls and texts but turn its data roaming off, so that all data runs through the travel profile. Receiving an incoming SMS does not generally consume data, but what your home operator charges for it is their term, not ours, so check with them before you go.

Hotspots and sharing with other devices

Tethering depends on the plan's terms, and our plan pages state it on every listing; some allow it but cap how much can be shared. Before making tethering the backbone of a trip, read that line first.

What people underestimate is how fast a laptop drinks. A computer on a hotspot will pull system updates, sync cloud folders and run backups without being asked, and an hour of that can outweigh a whole day of phone use. If you must tether a laptop, switch off automatic updates and pause cloud syncing first.

Telling weak signal apart from an unfinished setup

A checklist for places where signal may be thin

This takes under ten minutes before departure, and it is what separates a smooth trip from standing at the roadside hunting for a bar of signal.

  • Download offline maps for every city and route on the itinerary
  • Save accommodation addresses and contact numbers as text on the device
  • Keep boarding passes and booking documents offline, not only inside email
  • Check the plan's country list against every stop and every border crossing
  • Turn off data roaming on the home SIM, leaving it enabled only for SMS if you need it
  • Disable automatic updates and cloud sync on anything you plan to tether
With this list done, remaining signal problems become temporary inconvenience rather than something that wrecks a day's plan — a more realistic goal than hunting for a plan that never has a bad moment.

If you have read all this and are still unsure

Coverage questions get their best answers when they arrive with a real route attached. Send us every country you will be in, layovers included, plus the handset model you are taking, and we will help check whether the plan you are looking at matches. What we will not do is commit to a speed or to signal quality at a specific spot, because nobody genuinely knows that in advance.

FAQ

Why is my friend's phone faster when we are standing together?+

Two causes come up most. First, the two handsets may be on different networks or different masts, which is ordinary roaming behaviour. Second, band support differs between models, and even the same model bought in different markets can differ. On top of that, how many people share the cell in that minute matters. None of it is something a plan controls.

Will my phone switch networks during the trip?+

Yes, and it is normal. In automatic mode the phone picks from whatever it is entitled to use and finds, and it may change as you move between cities or cross a border. You generally need do nothing, except when it sticks on a weak network — which an airplane-mode toggle, or a temporary manual pick followed by a return to automatic, usually clears.

One country on the list gives me nothing at all — what now?+

First separate a settings problem from a network one. Confirm the travel profile has data roaming on and is set as the data line, then toggle airplane mode for ten seconds. If nothing changes, try selecting a network manually from the list on the plan page. If you have done all of that and still have no service, contact us with your order number, the country you are in, and the names the phone's scan returned.

Does a 5G icon on screen mean the connection will be fast?+

Not necessarily. The icon only reports which technology the phone is attached to. Real speed still depends on how many people share that cell, how far away it is, and what you are connecting to at the far end. In a crowded district, a 4G attachment on a quieter mast can feel better.

Does a regional plan cover every country in that region?+

Not always. The regional name is a marketing label; what binds is the country list printed on the plan page. Compare that list against your real route country by country, layovers included. If one is missing, plan on Wi-Fi for that stretch or buy a separate plan to cover it.

Bisakah saya memilih jaringan sendiri?

Bisakah saya berbagi hotspot?

Tergantung pada paket, dan halaman paket kami mencantumkannya di setiap listingan. Beberapa mengizinkan berbagi tetapi membatasinya, dan laptop pada hotspot menghabiskan data jauh lebih cepat daripada ponsel.
