Abu Dhabi is quieter than Dubai and far more spread out: the main sights sit on separate islands linked by bridges, so a day is a series of drives rather than a continuous walk. People come for the great mosque, the museums on Saadiyat, or an event on Yas. In the city and on the bridges the line is consistent, but head west toward the Liwa desert and the gaps between masts lengthen until the map freezes for a while.

Zayed International (AUH) now handles most traffic through one large new terminal, about thirty to forty minutes from the Corniche. Turn the line on before you leave the building, since the app pickup bays and the taxi rank are in different zones, and knowing which island your hotel is on saves a loop over the bridges. The other common arrival is by road from Dubai, around an hour and a half with coverage the whole way.

The main island, the Corniche and the bridges out to Saadiyat and Yas stay connected. Inside the Sheikh Zayed Mosque you can use the line in the courtyards and colonnades, while the inner halls go quiet behind thick walls. On a big event day, the circuit and concert grounds on Yas have tens of thousands using it at once, so photos and video crawl even with full bars. Driving west toward Liwa, coverage tapers until there is effectively none among the inner dunes.

A normal day is about 1–2GB: you walk less than in other cities, but you open the map every time you change islands and order several cars. Booking museum slots ahead is the norm here, so you will be pulling up emails and QR codes often. On a big Yas event day, allow around 3GB and screenshot the tickets, since loading a page in the middle of that crowd is markedly slower.

• The Corniche — The long seafront with its promenade and public beaches; good throughout, and where the city comes out to walk once the evening cools.
• Saadiyat Island — The museum-and-beach-resort island, where distances between points are longer than the map makes them feel; book entry slots and save the tickets before leaving your hotel.
• Yas Island — Theme parks, the circuit and a cluster of hotels; on event days some access roads close and a ride back takes a long time, so check the designated pickup points.
• Al Maryah & Al Reem — The newer office and residential islands joined by short bridges; a steady line and a sensible base if you have online meetings during the trip.

• The Liwa desert — Two and a half hours south-west to the edge of the great sand sea; the highway still has service, but once you leave the tarmac for the dunes it is gone for long stretches — tell someone your plan and carry spare water and fuel.
• Al Ain — An hour and a half inland to the oasis city on a straight, well-covered road; the climb up Jebel Hafeet wavers on the bends, so download the summit area beforehand.
• Sir Bani Yas Island — Several hours west then a boat or light aircraft across; the crossing thins out and on the island the line clusters around the resorts, so confirm the ferry times in advance.
