The main gateway is Hosea Kutako International outside Windhoek (WDH), about forty minutes from the city; Eros (ERS) in town handles domestic and light aircraft, and Walvis Bay (WVB) serves the coast. Overland, Noordoewer and Ariamsvlei cross from South Africa, Buitepos is the post on the Trans-Kalahari route to Botswana, and Oshikango in the north is the crossing into Angola.

Signal is good in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Oshakati and along the tarred B1 and B2. It thins or vanishes across the Namib around Sesriem and Sossusvlei, along the Skeleton Coast, in Kaokoland in the northwest, and on the many C- and D-numbered gravel roads that cut across large farmland. Plan on the basis that between two towns there may be no service at all for hours.
