Suvarnabhumi is the airport most travellers into Thailand actually use. It is one very large terminal, the walk from gate to immigration takes real minutes, and the pre-dawn and evening banks land several wide-bodies at once. Mobile signal reaches every part of the building, so what costs people time is not coverage — it is starting to configure a phone while already standing in the queue.

On arrival

Install the profile while you still have Wi-Fi at home or at your departure airport, and leave data roaming switched on for that line. When the wheels touch down and you turn airplane mode off, the line finds a Thai network on its own within a minute. If it stays silent longer than that, toggle airplane mode once more.

How far the airport Wi-Fi gets you

There is public Wi-Fi in the terminal and it is good enough for a short message, but it puts a sign-in page in front of you first — which costs more time than simply having your own line already working. For calling a car or telling someone you have landed, your own data is far less friction.

Getting into town

The airport rail link runs into the city with signal the whole way, and metered taxis queue on the level below arrivals. Booking a car through an app needs data before you leave the building rather than after, because the app pickup point is on a different level from the taxi rank.
