Every Jamaica eSIM here is 4G at most; none has 5G. A 5G phone works fine, it simply connects on 4G.
How much data you actually need
Most visitors use roughly 700MB–1.5GB a day on maps during transfers, WhatsApp and uploading photos at night. If you stream music the whole way in the car, add about another 1GB on top.
When you land
Sangster International at Montego Bay (MBJ) handles most holiday flights, with Norman Manley in Kingston (KIN) and Ian Fleming at Ocho Rios (OCJ) for smaller aircraft. Cruise ships dock at Ocho Rios, Falmouth and Montego Bay. Jamaica is an island with no land borders, and most arrivals go straight onto a coach or a pre-booked transfer from the terminal.
Where coverage changes
Coverage is good in Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril, and along the north coast highway. It thins noticeably in the Blue Mountains where people go for the coffee estates, across the limestone of Cockpit Country, in the John Crow Mountains, and on the south coast between Black River and Treasure Beach. The hill route over to Port Antonio also drops in and out.

Does signal drop in the Blue Mountains?+
Yes, in patches. The mountain road is narrow and winding, and you can have full bars at one bend and nothing at the next. If you are visiting a coffee estate or hiking up overnight for sunrise, download the offline map and save your driver's number before leaving Kingston, and agree the pickup point clearly from the start.
What is the best way to travel between towns in Jamaica?+
Knutsford Express coaches are the most predictable option, with published timetables and online booking ahead of time. The alternative is hiring a driver by the day, which works out better for a group. Either way the timing gets confirmed on the day over WhatsApp, so you want data while you are waiting in a lobby or by the roadside.
Is resort Wi-Fi enough at an all-inclusive?+
It is fine while you are on the property and not enough once you leave it. Waterfall trips, river rafting or a day driving across the island put you outside that network for hours at a stretch, and if you booked a tour with an outside operator they will send the pickup time and meeting point by WhatsApp that morning — after you have already left the room.
