Around 500MB–1GB a day is often enough, since most travellers only use maps, messaging and search. If you need video calls or want to upload a lot of photos, allow closer to 1.5GB a day.

The main international airports are Yangon (RGN), Mandalay (MDL) and Nay Pyi Taw (NYT). The land crossings with Thailand that travellers use are Mae Sot–Myawaddy, Mae Sai–Tachileik and Ranong–Kawthaung, but these open and close unpredictably, so confirm the current status before every trip.

Yangon and Mandalay are usable across the city. Bagan and Inle Lake work well enough around the towns and guesthouse areas, but the hill country in Shan and Chin states, and the long road stretches between towns, drop out for extended periods. Frequent power cuts can also take local network equipment offline.
