The air gateway is Mount Pleasant (MPN), about fifty kilometres from Stanley with a road transfer at the end. Stanley Airport (PSY) handles the small inter-island flights out to the outer islands and settlements. By sea, cruise ships anchor off Stanley and tender passengers ashore, and a vehicle ferry runs between East and West Falkland for those driving across. Arrange transfers and your first night before you fly, because departures are infrequent and rearranging on the day is rarely possible.

Mostly not. Almost everything outside Stanley has no mobile service, and you travel by four-wheel drive on gravel or by light aircraft to the outer islands. The way people here handle it is to leave your plan with the lodge or the driver before you go, state when you expect to be back, and let the accommodation be the point of contact if something changes. Tell family in advance how many days you will be quiet, so nobody worries unnecessarily.
I am calling at Stanley for one day on a cruise — what should I do about internet?+
Assume your time ashore is short and the options are limited. Download the Stanley map and your tour details before you tender in, agree a clear meeting point with the people you are with, and know your all-aboard time exactly. While you are on the ship, check your roaming settings carefully: a vessel's satellite system bills on a completely different basis from any land network, and it is the most common source of a bill nobody expected.
What should I sort out before flying in, given how few flights there are?+
Book your accommodation, the airport transfer and any inter-island flights before you travel, because seats are limited and hard to move once you are there. Keep every confirmation saved offline on the device and carry one printed set, since the places you need them tend to be the places with no signal. Inter-island flights also depend on wind and weather, so always leave a spare day before your international flight home rather than connecting on the same day.
