  • Korea publishes no official list of immigration questions, so be ready to explain your purpose, length of stay, accommodation and onward ticket, with documents on your phone and on paper.
  • The Korean Embassy in Thailand says Thai nationals need K-ETA approval before travelling to Korea, including direct flights to Jeju.
  • Holders of an approved K-ETA do not need to file the e-Arrival Card, but children aged 17 or under and adults aged 65 or over are K-ETA-exempt and must file it.

Korean immigration publishes no official list of questions, so the safest approach is to be ready to explain why you are visiting, how long you will stay, where you will sleep and how you will leave. Keep your K-ETA approval, onward ticket and accommodation details on your phone and on paper. Thai travellers also need K-ETA before boarding.

What should you be ready to explain at Korean immigration?

No official page lists which questions officers ask or which documents they require, so do not memorise scripted answers. Prepare the real details of your trip and answer briefly and consistently with the papers you carry.

  • Purpose: tourism, visiting relatives or attending a meeting, which are the purposes the embassy FAQ names for K-ETA.
  • Length of stay: your entry and exit dates should match your flights and accommodation bookings.
  • Where you stay: the hotel name or address and the cities you will visit, such as Seoul, Busan or Jeju.
  • Return ticket: your flight back to Thailand or on to another country.
  • Trip plan and means to pay: be able to outline your route and show you have cards or cash for the stay.
This list is what is sensible to prepare, not an official requirement. For the latest rules, check the Korea Immigration Service and the Korean Embassy in Thailand.

Do Thai passport holders need K-ETA before entering Korea?

Yes. The Korean Embassy in Thailand states in its FAQ that Thai nationals visiting Korea for tourism, to see relatives or to attend meetings must obtain K-ETA approval before travel. If K-ETA is refused, they must apply for a visa at the embassy.

Rules can change, so confirm on www.k-eta.go.kr and the embassy site before flying (last checked October 2026). The Ministry of Justice K-ETA Center in Korea decides applications, not the embassy, and the site warns about agency and phishing sites that charge high fees.

For the application steps, see “What is K-ETA, and what should you prepare before flying to South Korea?” According to the K-ETA site, review usually takes up to 72 hours, so apply well before departure, and an application submitted with wrong details cannot be edited and must be filed again. Transit passengers who stay airside need no K-ETA or visa, but anyone who must pass immigration, for example to recheck bags, needs one.

Do you need to fill in the e-Arrival Card?

Travellers with an approved K-ETA do not need the e-Arrival Card, because the Ministry of Justice guide to who must file lists holders of a Korean K-ETA among those who do not.

  • The portal is e-arrivalcard.go.kr, and you can submit from 3 days before arrival.
  • Thai children aged 17 or under and adults aged 65 or over are K-ETA-exempt, so they must submit the e-Arrival Card.
  • If you enter on a visa instead of K-ETA, you must still file.
  • For paper cards on board or at the airport, check the latest notice from the airport and your airline.

Which documents should you keep on your phone and on paper?

Keep key documents in two forms: a phone copy that opens without a signal and a printed backup. The table lists what to prepare.

What is the arrival flow at Incheon and Busan?

At Incheon (ICN) and Busan Gimhae (PUS) the overall order is similar: immigration, baggage claim, then customs. Follow the signs and staff instructions at each airport.

  1. 1Get documents readyBefore you reach the queue, have your K-ETA, accommodation and onward ticket open, plus your original passport.
  2. 2Go through immigrationAnswer briefly and in line with your documents, and follow the officer's instructions.
  3. 3Check Q-CODE if it appliesKDCA's Q-CODE pre-entry system is still running. It targets arrivals who visited or transited a quarantine-managed region, or who have symptoms such as fever or cough. You can enter details from 7 days before arrival until immigration clearance, or use a kiosk in the quarantine area.
  4. 4Collect bags and clear customsIf you have items to declare, complete the form; if not, use the no-declaration channel.

On the Smart Entry Service (SES) gates, the Korea Immigration Service says foreign tourists aged 17 or over whose fingerprints and face were recorded at entry can use SES when departing. Using SES on entry is tied to registered foreigners or MOU countries, named as the USA, Hong Kong and Macao, so on arrival simply follow the signs to the regular counters.

How does the customs declaration work?

According to the Incheon Airport customs page, travellers with items to declare complete the customs declaration, and one form covers a whole family.

  • You can also declare through the Traveler Customs Declaration app or website.
  • With nothing to declare, skip the form and use the no-declaration channel, though inspection can still happen.
  • Check duty-free allowances on the official customs or Incheon Airport site.
Customs and Q-CODE details can change, so check the official pages before you travel (last checked October 2026).

How does mobile data help at Korean immigration?

Mobile data lets you open your accommodation booking, onward ticket and K-ETA email at once if an officer asks, and lets you use a map to reach your hotel after clearing the border.

  • Save a screenshot of your K-ETA approval so it opens even with weak signal in the arrivals hall.
  • If you must file the e-Arrival Card or Q-CODE online, you need a connection to fill it in.
  • Install an eSIM before you fly and switch it on after landing so you can contact your hotel and book transport at once.
