Nomad eSIM review 2026: plan types, activation rules and refunds
Nomad's fixed-data, unlimited and Day Plans, how to compare packages, the 60-day activation rule and refund terms.
Trả lời nhanh
- Nomad has fixed-data packages, Unlimited plans and Day Plans with a set high-speed amount per day, so you can match the plan to how you use data.
- You must activate within 60 days of purchase or the eSIM starts itself on day 60, and Unlimited plans are non-refundable.
- Nomad has a Thai-language help centre and 24/7 live chat, which helps anyone who wants to read the terms in Thai.
This review is based on the plans, policies and help pages Nomad publishes, as of October 2026, and not on a test trip. Prices change often, so none appear here. This site also sells eSIMs.
Nomad's plan families
Nomad sells through the web and an iOS and Android app, with data packages for 200+ destinations plus Unlimited and Day Plans. The site shows prices in US dollars as starting-from figures, so open the actual package to see what you would really pay.
| Gia đình | Cách hoạt động | Fits this usage |
|---|---|---|
| Data packages | A block of GB for a number of days | Light to moderate use you can estimate |
| Không giới hạn | Mostly 2GB a day at high speed, then about 1 to 2 Mbps; the 24-hour cycle runs from activation | Daily use where you do not want to count GB |
| Day Plans | Pick 500MB to 3GB of high-speed data a day, then 512 kbps, for trips of 10 days or less, in 18 countries | Short trips where you want to set the daily ceiling |
Day Plans differ from Unlimited in that you choose the daily high-speed ceiling yourself. A lower ceiling costs less, but once you pass it the speed falls to 512 kbps, which copes with messages and light map use and not much more. Unlimited plans spare you that choice, though they slow down at a threshold the brand sets.
How to compare packages
- Estimate daily use from your own habits, then pick the family that matches
- Compare the package's days with your real departure and return dates
- On Unlimited and Day Plans, check the speed after the ceiling, 512 kbps or about 1 to 2 Mbps, and whether that is enough for what you do
- Check whether that package falls in a refundable group; see the refund section below
- Compare the current price with other brands for the same destination and dates
Phone numbers are worth a look too. Nomad is data only in general; the exceptions it lists are the Thailand eSIM from TRUE, which includes a number, and the UK Voice plan. Hotspot works with most Nomad eSIMs, but the brand does not guarantee stability.
Before you buy, open the package page and check three things: the number of days, the daily high-speed ceiling, and whether the package is in a refundable group, since a slightly cheaper plan may not be refundable at all. If the terms are unclear, Nomad's Thai help centre can be read before you decide.
Activation rules
A package starts when it connects at the destination, or activates by itself on day 60 after purchase, whichever comes first. You can buy ahead, but not beyond 60 days, because the clock starts on day 60 even if you have not travelled.
Add-ons and extending
An add-on starts when the original plan expires. Validity cannot be extended, leftover data does not roll over, and not every plan supports add-ons, so check the package page first if you expect to need more data mid-trip.
Điều khoản hoàn tiền
Nomad refunds in full within 30 days of purchase if the eSIM has not been installed or activated. The money returns to your card in 2 to 5 business days, or instantly as Nomad Points.
- All Unlimited plans are non-refundable
- UK Voice is non-refundable
- The Thailand 10-day 50GB package is non-refundable
- The Europe Nomad Pass is non-refundable
Thai help centre and support
Nomad has a Thai-language help centre where you can read the plan, activation and refund rules. Support is 24/7 live chat in the app and on the website, plus email. If you plan to share data with travelling companions, try the hotspot on your first day, since the brand does not guarantee its stability.
Strengths, limits and who it suits
Ưu điểm
- Fixed-data, Unlimited and Day Plans from one brand
- A Thai-language help centre and 24/7 chat
- Full refund within 30 days if not installed
Nhược điểm
- Unlimited plans cannot be refunded
- Auto-activation on day 60 makes very early purchases unwise
- Add-ons cannot extend validity, and some plans do not support them
- Mostly no phone number
Nomad suits people who want to choose the data model themselves and value a Thai help centre, especially on short trips where a Day Plan sets the daily ceiling. Anyone who wants to change their mind after activating, or who needs heavy daily data without any slowdown, should compare other options too. This site also sells eSIMs: plans in baht, no app needed, QR by email, and a self-service refund within 14 days if the eSIM is not installed.
