Keflavík is how nearly everyone enters Iceland, and it sits out on the Reykjanes peninsula among open lava fields rather than on the edge of the capital. A day driving the ring road is another matter entirely: the map runs for hours on end and you will refresh road conditions and wind forecasts several times over. Along the main routes there is service almost throughout, but the interior highlands and parts of the western fjords drop out for long stretches, leaving you on whatever you downloaded.
