Can I manage without Spanish?+
You can, but it is harder than people expect. Spanish is the main official language and is what officials, hotels and shops use almost everywhere. French and Portuguese are also official but far less common day to day, and English really only appears around the energy companies. Are there rules about taking photos?+
Take this seriously. Government buildings, the presidential palace, military sites, the airport, the port and checkpoints should not be photographed at all, and raising a phone near them can lead to your device being inspected. The safe habit is to ask a local contact or your host first every time, and to ask permission directly before photographing people.
How do I get from Malabo to Bata?+
Two ways: a short domestic flight, or the passenger ferry across the bight, which takes much longer and depends on sea conditions. Most people fly, but schedules can move, so reconfirm with the airline or your agent on the day and always leave slack before an international departure. Remember you are crossing between an island and the mainland, not moving around within one place.
