Bought the wrong plan but not installed it yet

Before installation is when the most options remain.

Bought the wrong plan but not installed it yet

Quick answer

  • Do not install it. Contact us at once with the order number and what you meant to buy.
  • Options are always wider while the profile is unused, since installation is usually irreversible.

The commonest mistakes are the wrong country, the wrong size, or validity that does not cover the travel dates. All three are far easier to handle before installation.

Bought the wrong plan but not installed it yet

Do this, in order

  1. 1StopDo not scan the QR or enter the activation string: installation is usually irreversible
  2. 2Gather the detailsThe order number, the plan you received and the plan you intended
  3. 3Contact usTell us straight away through the contact page: sooner means more options
  4. 4Wait for our replyWe check the state with the supplier and tell you honestly what is possible
Buying a replacement does not cancel the first order: it becomes two purchases with two charges. Always contact us before buying again.

What determines the options

  • Whether the profile has been issued
  • Whether it has been installed, and whether it has been activated
  • The supplier's terms for that specific plan
  • The published refund policy

Why the window before installation matters

An eSIM is not a parcel that can be posted back. What you buy is the right to install one profile onto one device, and once that profile has been downloaded it binds to the handset and counts as delivered. That is why the window before installation is so valuable: it is the only period in which the widest set of options is still open, and it is the moment where pausing to ask one question produces a very different outcome from trying things first and explaining afterwards.

Do not scan the QR or tap install just to check whether the purchase really was wrong. Everything you need to identify the plan is in the order confirmation email and needs no installation. Once it is installed the options narrow immediately, whether or not you ever used it.

Work out precisely what went wrong

The phrase bought the wrong plan covers several situations that are handled very differently. Some are genuinely the wrong product; others are a misunderstanding about terms where the plan received was actually correct. Sorting out which one you are in speeds up the answer, because it tells us straight away what to check instead of costing a round of questions. Read the table below and pick the line closest to your case before writing to us.

What happenedWhat to tell usWhat shapes the options
Bought a plan for a country you are not visitingThe country purchased and the country you actually needWhether the profile has been issued, and that supplier's terms
Bought too little or too much dataThe size bought, plus the real trip length and usageIn some cases topping up is easier than swapping the plan
Validity does not cover the travel datesThe real departure and return datesNot yet activated is much easier to handle
Accidentally purchased twiceBoth order referencesWhich of the two has been installed, if either
The device does not support eSIM or is carrier-lockedModel, OS version and the country the phone was bought inOnly the carrier that sold the phone can confirm a lock

What installed actually means

People are often unsure whether they installed it, because the on-device flow runs through several screens and the menu names differ by manufacturer and OS version. The most direct check is to open the list of mobile plans or SIMs in your settings. If a new entry appears there, even one that is switched off, the profile has been downloaded to the phone. If there is no new entry and you never scanned the QR, it is not installed, which is the best position to be in when you ask for help.

Menu names vary by manufacturer and OS release. Some devices call it mobile plans, others SIM cards, and on some it sits under network and internet. If you cannot find it, use the search box in Settings and type eSIM or SIM.

What we can check and what the supplier decides

Knowing who decides what keeps expectations realistic. We can check the state of the order in our system, see whether the profile has been issued, and go back to the supplier who issued that plan to ask what is possible in this specific case. What we cannot decide on their behalf is their own terms, which differ from plan to plan and with the state of the profile. We will tell you honestly what comes back, including when the answer is not the one you wanted.

Writing the message that gets a fast answer

A complete first message usually gets a complete first reply, while a message that says only that the wrong thing was bought typically needs two or three exchanges before anyone can start checking, which costs time that matters when a departure date is close. Write it in the order below. It takes under two minutes and lets us take the case to the supplier without coming back to you first.

  1. 1The order referenceIt is in the confirmation email; copy the whole thing rather than retyping it, to avoid a transcription error
  2. 2The plan you receivedState the plan name, country or region, data size and number of days exactly as the email shows
  3. 3The plan you meant to buySay clearly which country, which size, and the dates you need it to cover
  4. 4The installation stateSay plainly whether it is not installed, installed, or you are unsure; honesty here matters more than a tidy answer
  5. 5Device details if relevantIf the issue is compatibility or a lock, give the model, the OS version and the country of purchase
  6. 6Your travel dateIf departure is close, include the date so the urgency can be judged correctly

What not to do while you wait

The waiting period is when people accidentally make things harder, usually out of worry about the departure date. What gets done in those hours often changes the state of the order in ways that remove options that existed a moment earlier. Avoid the following until you have an answer.

  • Do not install the profile to test it, even intending to switch it off straight away
  • Do not buy a replacement before telling us: it becomes two orders with two charges
  • Do not delete the confirmation email or the QR: it is the only thing tying you to that order
  • Do not forward the QR for someone else to install: the profile is single-use and binds to the first device
  • Do not open a payment dispute with your bank straight away: it freezes the ordinary route to a fix
  • Do not switch the email address you are contacting us from: matching you to the order gets harder
Buying a second plan does not cancel the first. If you genuinely need the correct plan before departure, say so in the same message and tell us you are about to buy again, so both orders are looked at together.

How long you have before departure changes the approach

How much time remains changes the order of operations more than most people expect. With several days left, the right move is to report it and wait, because there is time for the supplier check to run. With a few hours left, the priority becomes making sure you arrive able to get online, and the wrong order is chased afterwards. In that second case, tell us what you are about to do so both threads sit in the same case rather than in two.

Cases that look like a mistake but are not

Before asking to cancel, check a few things that regularly make a correct purchase look like a mistake. The most frequent is how validity starts. Many people assume the clock runs from the purchase date, when a great many plans start counting at first activation in the destination instead. This term varies by plan, so read it on that plan's own page. The other is a regional name that reads as though it covers a whole region, when the included-country list is what actually decides.

  • Validity may start at activation rather than purchase; check that plan's terms first
  • A regional plan covers the countries on its list, not every country in the region
  • Some plans are data only, with no number or SMS, which is normal for that plan type
  • Seeing no signal while still at home is expected for a plan that only works at the destination
  • The network name on screen may differ from the plan name because it is the local roaming network

If the answer turns out to be no

Sometimes the supplier's answer is that a given plan cannot be changed or refunded. We will say so plainly, with the reason and the point at which it stopped, rather than leaving you waiting without a reply. At that stage the useful question is whether the plan you hold can still be put to work. If it is the wrong country but a country you will visit later, it may be worth keeping, provided the validity terms allow it. Check whether that plan has a deadline by which it must be activated.

If you decide to keep a plan for later, note the date by which it must be activated and file the confirmation email where you will find it. Forgetting that an unused plan exists is the commonest way one goes to waste.

Payments, and why a bank dispute slows things down

When a case feels stuck, people often think about asking their bank to dispute the charge. The difficulty is that opening a dispute moves the transaction into the payment provider's own process, which usually puts the ordinary route to a fix on hold until that process finishes. The faster path gets closed off. It works better to report it to us with the full details, allow a reasonable period for the supplier check, and only consider other routes if that produces no conclusion.

Preventing the same mistake next time

Most of these mistakes happen on the last screen before payment, when someone is in a hurry and skim-reading. Thirty seconds spent checking four things, country, size, number of days and how validity starts, prevents nearly every case described on this page. The other habit worth building is opening the confirmation email immediately after buying and reading it once. If something is wrong, you find out while it is still uninstalled, which is precisely the moment when the most can be done.

  1. Check the country or region against the real destination, including any stopover where you leave the transit area
  2. Check the data size against how you actually use data, not against whichever number looks best value
  3. Check the number of days covers both the outbound and return dates
  4. Read when validity starts, as stated on that plan's page
  5. Check the handset supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked
  6. Open the confirmation email straight after buying and read it before filing it

常見問題

Why is it harder once installed?+

Because the profile has been delivered and bound to your device, so the supplier treats the product as used. Not every case can be reversed.

What if the dates are wrong rather than the country?+

It depends whether the clock has started. If not activated, it is usually easier to adjust. Contact us with your real travel dates.

What if I am not sure whether I installed it?+

Say plainly that you are unsure, then open the list of mobile plans or SIMs in your settings. A new entry, even a disabled one, means the profile has been downloaded. Being honest beats guessing: we can see the state from our side anyway, and a mismatch only slows the case down.

Can I cancel it myself on the website?+

These cases are handled by contacting the team, because the state of the profile has to be checked with the supplier first. Message us on LINE or by email with the order reference and we will come back on what is possible in your case.

Wrong country, not installed. Am I certain to get a refund?+

Nobody can honestly promise the outcome in advance, because it depends on that supplier's terms and the state of the profile. What can be said is that an uninstalled profile always leaves more room than an installed one. We will check and tell you what comes back.

Should I buy the correct plan while I wait?+

With several days in hand, wait for the reply. If departure is too close to wait, tell us in the same message that you are buying again and keep both order references. A second purchase does not cancel the first, so both need to sit in one case.

I bought it for someone else and got it wrong. Who should contact you?+

The person who made the purchase, because they hold the confirmation email and the order reference needed to match the record. If the traveller writes instead, include the order reference and name the purchaser so the two can be linked.

How do I tell whether validity has already started?+

Go by that plan's own terms: some start counting at first activation in the destination, others under different stated conditions. If it has never been installed or used, the clock has generally not begun, but to be certain, ask us with the order reference.
