Banff is a small town inside a national park, and most people come for the mountains, the lakes and the trails rather than for urban convenience. In town itself the line behaves normally, because hotels and shops are packed close together. When you land

Most people fly into Calgary (YYC) and continue by rental car or shuttle. Switch the eSIM on inside the terminal where the signal is strong, and finish downloading the park-area maps before you leave the airport. The road from Calgary to Banff is mostly connected but thins as the mountains close in, with stretches that drop. In winter the road may close or carry tyre requirements, and those conditions change from year to year — always check with the highway authority and the park service before setting off.

Where coverage changes

In the town and along the main road the line behaves normally. Car parks at the popular lakes are usually workable but slow right down on full days, because a great many people share one mast at once. • Yoho and Emerald Lake — Across the divide the line is noticeably thinner than on the Banff side; the waterfall viewpoints and the lake access road are usually without service, so save your route and any meeting times in advance.
• A day back down to Calgary — Coming down out of the mountains the line fills back in as the prairie opens up, and Calgary itself behaves like any large city — a good day to back up photos and clear anything work-related.
