Two things matter before you buy: does the handset support eSIM, and is it network-locked. The first you can look up; the second only the carrier you bought it from can confirm.
Confirm it on the phone itself
- Dial *#06# — if an EID line appears, the handset has an eSIM chip
- On iPhone open Settings, General, About and look for EID
- On most Android phones open Settings, About phone, SIM status
Frequently asked questions
What if there is no EID?+
The handset has no eSIM chip and needs a physical SIM. No travel eSIM will work on it, from us or anyone else.
Can a network-locked phone use a travel eSIM?+
Usually not: the handset rejects other operators' profiles. It has to be unlocked by the carrier that locked it.
What about tablets and smartwatches?+
Many cellular tablets take an eSIM and work fine with a data plan. Most smartwatches use carrier-tied eSIM profiles, so travel eSIMs generally do not work on them.
