How much data you actually need
Reckon on 1–2GB a day for maps, chat and photos. On a diving or island-hopping trip where you upload video each night, allow around 2.5GB a day.
When you land
The main gateways are Ninoy Aquino in Manila (MNL), Mactan-Cebu (CEB) and Clark (CRK), with Kalibo (KLO) and Caticlan (MPH) for Boracay, Puerto Princesa (PPS), Bohol-Panglao (TAG) and Davao (DVO) serving the beach regions. Inter-island travel still runs largely on ferries out of Cebu and Batangas ports.
Where coverage changes
Metro Manila, Cebu and the larger cities are covered throughout. On tourist islands such as El Nido and Coron in Palawan, Siargao and the Batanes group, the signal is noticeably thinner and slower. Inter-island boat legs are effectively offline, and during typhoon season power cuts can take local networks down across a whole area.

Do I need to register on eTravel before travelling?+
Yes. eTravel is an online form travellers complete before arriving in the Philippines, and you show the resulting QR code at the checkpoint. Fill it in while you still have Wi-Fi at your departure airport and save the QR code as an image — that helps a great deal if your line has not attached when you land.
Is data good enough on islands like El Nido or Siargao?+
Fine for chat and maps in the town centres, but do not plan online meetings or large uploads from there — speeds swing with the crowd and the weather. If you have work to send, deal with it while you are still in Cebu or Manila before you get on the boat.
How much does typhoon season affect the signal?+
It genuinely does. Storms cause widespread power cuts, and when the power stays off long enough, local base stations go down with it. In the stormier months, keep a fallback plan, save your accommodation address and airline number offline, and follow local announcements about flights and ferry sailings.
Can I use the local payment apps straight away?+
Most of them verify you with a Philippine mobile number and local documents, so short-stay visitors usually cannot set them up immediately. In practice, carry a reasonable amount of pesos in cash for boats, markets and island shops, and use a card at hotels and larger city businesses.
When does a Philippines eSIM start counting days?+

Do I have to remove my home SIM?+
