한눈에 보기

  • A 5-day, 4-night Korea trip works as four days in Seoul plus one day trip, such as Suwon Hwaseong Fortress or Nami Island.
  • Three to four days is enough for Seoul alone, and seven days lets you add Busan or Gyeongju by KTX.
  • Gyeongbokgung Palace is closed every Tuesday, so do not plan it for a Tuesday.

The best fit for a 5-day, 4-night Korea trip is four days in Seoul plus one day trip, such as Suwon Hwaseong Fortress or Nami Island. If you have three or four days, stay in Seoul only. With seven days you can add Busan or Gyeongju by KTX. Check your K-ETA before fixing flight dates.

How many days do you need for a Korea trip?

Three to four days is enough for Seoul alone, five days adds one day trip, and seven days adds a second city. The table sums up the three options.

3 days 2 nights or 4 days 3 nights서울None neededFirst-timers with limited leave
5 days 4 nights서울One day trip (Suwon, Nami Island or a DMZ tour)A slower pace with one outing

For K-ETA steps, read “What is K-ETA, and what should you prepare before flying to South Korea?”. For money planning, read “South Korea on a small budget: cities, stays, transport and food”. This guide only covers how to arrange the days.

What does a 3-4 day Seoul itinerary look like?

Group each day by area so you spend less time changing subway lines. The plan uses only places that VisitKorea lists, and day 4 is the extra day for a 4-day, 3-night trip.

2일차Gyeongbokgung and InsadongVisit Gyeongbokgung Palace, then Insadong, known for antiques and traditional crafts.
3일차Hongdae and DongdaemunHongik University Station (Hongdae) is on AREX, and Dongdaemun Design Plaza is by Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Lines 2, 4 and 5.
Day 4 (optional)강남Walk Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, reached from Exit 8 of Sinsa Station on Line 3, then head to the airport.
The Korea Heritage Service Royal Palaces site says Gyeongbokgung is closed every Tuesday. If a Tuesday is a public or substitute holiday, the palace opens that day and closes the next day instead. Rules change; last checked October 2026, so confirm on the official site.

How do you plan a 5-day, 4-night Korea trip?

Take the Seoul plan above and swap one day for a trip out of the city. Pick one of these three options.

  • Suwon Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do: a UNESCO World Heritage site since 12 December 1997, built from 1794 to 1796, with walls about 5.7 km long.
  • Nami Island at Namiseom-gil, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do: the ferry leaves from Gapyeongnaru Pier, and VisitKorea lists it as open year-round.
  • DMZ tour: bring your passport. VisitKorea says non-Koreans visiting on their own may not be guaranteed entry to the civilian-controlled zone, so a tour is the practical option for most visitors.

2일차Gyeongbokgung and Insadong
3일차Day trip (Suwon, Nami Island or a DMZ tour)

VisitKorea says Imjingak can be reached by public transport, while the JSA (Panmunjeom) did not accept non-Korean visitors as of July 2024. DMZ rules can change; last checked October 2026, so check with the tour operator and the official site before booking.

Is a 7-day trip Seoul plus Busan or Gyeongju?

Spend four days in Seoul, then continue by train. VisitKorea gives KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station as about 3 hours 20 minutes and SRT from Suseo as about 2 hours 30 minutes. Gyeongju City says KTX from Seoul Station to Gyeongju Station takes about 2 hours 10 minutes.

날Plan (Busan example)
Days 1-4Seoul as above, with or without the day trip
Day 5KTX or SRT to Busan, then settle in near Haeundae or Gwangalli
Day 6Haedong Yonggungsa, Songjeong, then Haeundae and Gwangalli
Day 7Gamcheon Culture Village, then back to Seoul or your flight home

If you choose Gyeongju, spend days 5 to 7 there instead. Before buying the return train ticket, check whether your flight home leaves from Seoul or Busan.

Journey time depends on the train you pick, so check the KORAIL timetable before you buy. Last checked October 2026.

How do you get around between the sights?

  • AREX Express runs non-stop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and about 51 minutes from Terminal 2. AREX All-stop takes about 59 and 66 minutes.
  • T-money is sold at convenience stores nationwide (GS25, CU, 7-Eleven) and at Seoul subway stations on Lines 1 to 8.
  • Seoul's Climate Card is limited to use within Seoul from 1 October 2026 and does not cover the Sinbundang Line, GTX or airport buses, so check coverage before relying on it for a Suwon or Nami Island day.
  • Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for directions, because Visit Jeju says Google Maps navigation does not work in South Korea.

Why does phone data matter on a Korea itinerary?

A day-by-day plan leans on your phone for maps, train tickets and tour bookings. Naver Map and KakaoMap need a connection, and changing plans mid-day means checking trains or tour times. VisitKorea says eSIMs are bought online and set up with a QR code, so confirm before you fly that your phone supports eSIM.

자주 묻는 질문

Where should I go on a 5-day, 4-night Korea trip?+

Spend four days in Seoul (Myeongdong, Gyeongbokgung, Insadong, Hongdae, Dongdaemun and Gangnam) and add one day trip such as Suwon or Nami Island.

Are 3 days and 2 nights enough for Korea?+

It is enough for Seoul alone if you group days by area: Myeongdong first, Gyeongbokgung and Insadong second, then Hongdae or Dongdaemun.

Are Korean plugs the same as Thai ones?+

VisitKorea says Korea uses 220 V at 60 Hz with outlets that have two round holes. Check that your charger label covers 50/60 Hz, and borrow or buy an adapter at hotels, airports or convenience stores if the plug does not fit.

What do I bring on a DMZ tour?+

Bring your original passport. VisitKorea says entry beyond the Civilian Control Line requires a passport, and a tour is the practical option for most foreigners.
