  • Buy from the club or its approved resale system only, and confirm terms with the club.
  • Wait for a confirmed kick-off time before booking non-refundable flights.
  • Download the ticket and maps first, because signal in the ground can be slow.

A Premier League trip is three bookings that have to line up

Going to a Premier League match looks simple: buy a ticket, book a flight, sit in the stand. In practice three things have to line up at the same time: a valid ticket, travel and accommodation that match the fixture date, and a matchday journey that actually gets you in before kick-off. Trouble usually starts when people book the flight first without knowing whether they will get a ticket, or buy the ticket and then find the kick-off time has been moved.

This page is written for Thai travellers making a first football trip to England. It explains the order to do things in and what to verify with official sources. We do not state ticket prices, fixture lists or any club's rules as fact, because they all change. Confirm with the club, the league and the rail operator before you travel.

How to buy a ticket safely

Most Premier League tickets are sold by the home club itself, and many clubs give members first access. Some fixtures sell out before the general public can buy. Start with the club's official website, the club-approved resale or exchange system, and hospitality or travel packages sold by a seller the club names as an official agent. Buying from strangers on social media or in chat groups risks fake tickets, tickets that get cancelled, or tickets in someone else's name.

  • Check whether the ticket is app-based or paper; many clubs use digital tickets tied to an account or membership card
  • Read the transfer rules; some clubs do not allow tickets to be passed on outside their own system
  • Check whether the seat is in the home or away section and choose the one that matches who you support
  • Keep the confirmation email and screenshots somewhere you can open without internet
Clubs and the league set their own rules on resale and on names printed on tickets. A ticket bought through the wrong channel can be refused at the gate. Confirm the current terms with the home club before you pay.

Book flights and hotels after the kick-off time is confirmed

The Premier League usually publishes match dates first and confirms kick-off times later, because of live broadcast selections. If you have already booked a non-refundable flight, a moved kick-off can leave you arriving too late or needing an extra night. The safer approach is to wait until the kick-off time for your match is confirmed, or to choose flights and rooms that can be changed. Check the league and club websites for when times are announced.

On accommodation, you do not always have to stay in the club's own town. London has several clubs and a dense network of Underground and suburban trains. In cities such as Manchester or Liverpool, the stadium is a manageable trip from the centre. After the final whistle many people leave at once, so allow extra time to get back and check the time of the last train that day.

Getting to the stadium on matchday

Public transport is how most people reach the ground. Rail lines often have engineering works at weekends, which can cancel trains or divert them. Before you leave, open the app or website of the rail and Underground operator you plan to use, check the status for that day and prepare one backup route. Fares and payment methods differ between cities, so check with the operator directly.

  1. 1Plan the main routeUse a map and the operator's app to find the route to the station nearest the ground
  2. 2Prepare a backupNote another station or line in case the main one is suspended
  3. 3Leave with marginLeave earlier than you think; bag checks and entrances can be slow
  4. 4Plan the way backAgree a meeting point with friends in case signal is slow, and check the last train

Ground rules and what to bring

Each stadium has its own policy on bag size, items and prohibited objects. Many do not allow large bags or suitcases, and some have no left-luggage facility, so do not go straight from the airport to the ground with all your luggage. Leave it at the hotel first. English grounds also have rules about standing, alcohol and spectator behaviour; follow the stewards' instructions.

  • A small bag, your passport or ID as the club requires, and a ticket you can open without internet
  • A waterproof or windproof layer; some seats are not fully covered
  • A credit or debit card, since many grounds are cashless
  • A power bank within whatever the ground allows

Staying connected on matchday

A stadium holding tens of thousands of people can make mobile networks slow or drop out before kick-off and after the final whistle, which is exactly when you need your digital ticket and maps. There are three practical reasons to have mobile data ready from landing: opening the ticket and confirmation emails, using live maps and rail apps, and receiving OTP codes from your bank or booking apps when needed. A travel eSIM gives you data while your home SIM stays in the phone for SMS, but nobody can guarantee fast signal inside a packed ground, so download the ticket and offline maps in advance.

For more on slow networks in crowds, and eSIM compared with roaming, see the related guides below.

Money and budget

The main costs are the ticket, flights, accommodation and local transport. Each varies with the opponent, the date and the season, so we give no figures; check real prices from actual sellers and include booking fees before you decide. For payment, many travellers use a card that handles pounds sterling without heavy conversion charges, but terms depend on your bank, so ask it before you go.

Safety and matchday manners

The atmosphere is mostly friendly, but some fixtures carry tension between supporters. If you wear the away team's shirt, judge whether the area around the ground is suitable and follow the stewards' and police advice. Mind your bag and phone in crowds. In an emergency in the UK the long-standing emergency number is 999; confirm before you travel. Travel insurance can cover illness or belongings, so ask your insurer about the terms.

A simple plan for a first-time visitor

  1. Choose a match and check the confirmed kick-off time on the league and club websites
  2. Buy the ticket through an official channel and keep the proof
  3. Book flights and accommodation that can be changed where possible
  4. Check entry requirements with the official authority
  5. Prepare mobile data, an offline ticket and offline maps
  6. Arrive early and plan the way back before the game ends

자주 묻는 질문

Can I buy a Premier League ticket from another person?+

We do not recommend it. Many clubs limit resale and the names on tickets, and a ticket bought outside official channels may be cancelled or refused at the gate. Start with the club and its approved resale system.

Should I book the flight before or after I have a ticket?+

Ideally have the ticket and a confirmed kick-off time first, or at least choose a changeable flight, because kick-off can move for broadcast reasons.

Can I bring a suitcase into the stadium?+

Generally no, and some grounds have no left-luggage. Leave bags at the hotel and check the bag policy of the stadium you are visiting.

Will an eSIM let me open my ticket inside the ground?+

Nobody can guarantee it, as signal in crowds can be slow. Download the ticket to your phone before leaving the hotel. An eSIM helps with data while travelling and planning routes.
