Slow data? Lock one network

This plan can use several networks, and your phone switches between them on its own whenever the signal changes. Data drops for a moment on every switch, and sometimes the phone settles on a weak network or 3G. If data is slow, turn off automatic selection and lock the single strongest network.

iPhone

Go to Settings › Cellular and tap your travel eSIM under SIMs
Keep Turn On This Line and Data Roaming on, then tap Network Selection
Turn off Automatic, wait 1–2 minutes for the list, then tap the strongest network. A tick means it is locked

Android

Samsung: Settings › Connections › Mobile networks. Pixel and others: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs, then tap your travel eSIM
Keep Data roaming on, then tap Network operators (on a Pixel the setting is on this same page)
On a dual-SIM phone pick the eSIM tab first. Turn off Select automatically, wait for the search, then tap the strongest network

Which network to pick

Pick the most signal bars, 5G or LTE first, and avoid 3G
Only pick names from this plan's network list above. If it says it cannot connect or shows No Service, pick another
Still slow? Try another one, compare speeds and keep the faster
Lost signal after moving to a new city, or back home? Turn automatic back on

Locking one network on iPhone in three steps: Settings › Cellular and tap your travel eSIM, tap Network Selection, turn off Automatic and pick the strongest network

Locking one network on Android in three steps: open Mobile networks, tap Network operators, turn off Select automatically and pick the strongest network

Which apps work in China

Google, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube work in China without a VPN

This is a roaming profile. Your phone uses Chinese towers, but the data session does not exit in China — the supplier routes it out in United Kingdom / Norway before it reaches the internet, so China's own filtering never sees it.

TikTok works on this one too: it exits in United Kingdom / Norway, not on a Hong Kong or Chinese address — the two TikTok does not serve.

How to use TikTok in China and Hong Kong

How you use it

Buy the plan and wait for the QR code by email, usually within a few minutes.
Install the profile while on Wi-Fi at home, either by scanning the QR from another screen or entering the details manually.
Turn roaming data off on your main line and set this eSIM as the data line.
On arrival, switch Data Roaming on for this eSIM line. The plan works over roaming.

You can install the profile before you fly. Validity starts at the first successful connection at your destination.

FAQ

Can I install it before I fly?+

Yes, and it is the better way to do it: installing needs internet, so install on Wi-Fi at home and switch the line on after landing. The validity starts at the first connection at the destination.

Can I share the connection over hotspot?+

Yes, hotspot is allowed on this plan. Whatever your friends use comes out of the same allowance.

What if I run out of data before I fly home?+

You can top the same profile up without installing another eSIM, or buy a new plan and install it as a second profile.
