How much data you actually need
Most visitors use around 500MB–1.5GB a day, because trail maps stay open, the weather gets checked repeatedly and photos go up from the summits. Filming every day pushes it past 2GB.
When you land
The main gateway is Roland Garros (RUN) at Sainte-Marie near Saint-Denis, served from Paris, Mauritius and other Indian Ocean destinations, with a second airport at Pierrefonds (ZSE) by Saint-Pierre in the south used mainly for regional routes. If you are driving straight up into one of the cirques on your first night, switch the line on and check the road status for the climb to Cilaos or Salazie before you leave the terminal.

Along the ring road and the coastal towns — Saint-Denis, Saint-Paul, Saint-Pierre, Saint-Andre — service is reliable throughout. Only from certain spots. No road reaches Mafate, so signal comes in patches along the ridges and usually disappears once you drop into a valley. When is cyclone season, and how should I plan around it?+

In that window heavy rain can settle in for days and the authorities may raise an alert level, which closes roads, trails and sometimes the airport.
