Ten days is enough for Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, which means at least two internal flights, and it is a length for which Vietnam has no fixed plan that fits exactly.
Ten days comes to about 11 GB at normal use (light 5, heavy 22). Vietnam fixed plans last 7, 15 or 30 days, so there is no 10-day size: the 7-day is too short, leaving the 30-day 10 or 20 GB plans or a daily plan.
The Vietnam-specific catch: a 10 GB pack is a little short of the normal 11 GB. Step up to 20 GB or count on Wi-Fi, and check how many internal flights you will take from north to south.

How ten days across the whole country fits together
Ten days is where Thai travellers start thinking north to south. A popular shape is three nights in Hanoi with a Ha Long or Ninh Binh trip, three nights in Da Nang and Hoi An, then south to Ho Chi Minh City for three or four nights, perhaps with Dalat or a Mekong Delta day trip. It all links with two internal flights, or one overnight train leg.
The result is uneven data. Big cities mean lots of hotel Wi-Fi, but each transfer is a heavy day, and three different regions call for a safety margin. The normal 11 GB should be read as a midpoint to leave headroom around, not a ceiling.
Where the spikes land
Two inter-region flight days: check-out, Grab to the airport, flight status, then Grab again at the other end, roughly double a normal day.
Ha Long or Ninh Binh: hours on road and water with patchy signal, so download maps beforehand.
Dalat or the Mekong Delta: mountain roads and narrow canal boats, lovely but with uneven signal.
Ho Chi Minh City: the biggest city in the country, with heavy motorbike traffic, so you use Grab more often than in smaller towns.
Choosing when there is no 10-day size
Fixed Vietnam plans last 7, 15, 30 and 180 days. At ten days the 7-day plan is too short to cover the trip, and the 15-day plan comes in a single size of 3 GB, far below the normal 11 GB. So the sensible fixed options are the 30-day plans at 10 GB or 20 GB: you waste 20 days of validity but get one allowance to spend as you like.
A 10 GB pack is slightly under 11 GB, which is no problem if maps and hotel Wi-Fi share the load, but if you like to shoot and post live during the day, 20 GB is more comfortable and leaves room for the two flight days. A daily plan at 1 GB or 2 GB is the other route: you pay for exactly ten days with nothing left over, but the allowance does not roll over between days.
Daily plans win when most days look alike; a large fixed pack wins when two or three days are very heavy and the rest light. A ten-day north-to-south trip is the second kind, because flight days and far day trips make usage uneven.
Connectivity facts for the whole country
Viettel Mobile, MobiFone and Vinaphone are the networks behind the Vietnam plans and cover the big cities of all three regions well. In remote parts of the northern mountains and the central highlands coverage varies, which is down to terrain rather than the plan.
With several flights, install Grab and Zalo before you leave. Grab works in all three big cities, while Zalo is the channel local hosts and drivers use. Some small tourist towns have fewer ride-hailing options, so keep a backup such as asking the hotel to arrange a car.
The eSIM is data only. If an airline or bank sends SMS codes to your Thai number, keep the Thai SIM on to receive them, and keep boarding passes as screenshots in case signal drops.
FAQ
Should I buy a 30-day plan for a 10-day Vietnam trip?+
The 30-day plan is the fixed plan whose size fits ten days best in Vietnam. The remaining validity goes unused but does no harm. If you do not want to pay for validity you will not use, compare a daily plan that charges by actual days.
Do I change plans moving from the north to the centre or south?+
No. Vietnam plans work nationwide, so one plan lasts all ten days. What differs is signal strength by area, not the plan's coverage.
What should I prepare if I add Dalat or the Mekong Delta?+
Download offline maps of the route first, since mountain roads and canal boats have uneven signal, and keep your accommodation address as a screenshot.
