Choosing the right Taiwan eSIM package when there is no country-only plan
Taiwan has no standalone plan on our shelf — only Asia regional and global packages carry it. This compares which one suits which trip, and how many gigabytes to buy.

Quick answer
- Taiwan has no standalone eSIM plan on our shelf — only Asia regional packages and global packages cover it.
- A typical trip uses roughly 1–2GB a day, so five to seven days lands on 10GB, and ten days or more is more comfortable at 20GB.
- If Taiwan is the only stop, size the package by days; if you're visiting several countries, check the country list a package covers before you look at the gigabytes.
There is no Taiwan-only plan on our shelf
The honest answer is that our shelf carries no plan labelled for Taiwan alone. Taiwan is covered only inside the Asia regional packages and the global packages. So the choice is not 'which Taiwan plan' but 'which regional or global package fits this trip.' The upside is that if your trip also stops in Japan or Hong Kong, the same profile covers every stop without switching eSIMs partway through.

Which package families a Taiwan trip actually chooses between
On our shelf, Taiwan shows up inside four main package families. This table compares what else each one covers beyond Taiwan, the shapes it comes in, and the kind of trip it suits.
| Package family | What else it covers | Shapes available | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Asia (12 areas) | A set of frequently visited East and Southeast Asian countries/territories, such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and neighbouring ASEAN destinations | 1GB/7 days, 3GB/15 days, 3GB/30 days, 5GB/30 days, 10GB/30 days, 20GB/30 days, plus per-day options at 500MB, 1GB, 2GB and 3GB a day | A Taiwan trip that adds one or two other stops from this list, such as Taiwan–Japan or Taiwan–Hong Kong |
| Asia (20 areas) | A wider Asian list than the 12-area version, adding destinations beyond ASEAN and East Asia | 1GB/7 days, 3GB/15 days, 3GB/30 days, 5GB/30 days, 10GB/30 days, 20GB/30 days, plus per-day options at 500MB, 1GB and 2GB a day | A multi-country Asia trip that includes Taiwan as one stop and continues to a destination outside the 12-area list |
| Global139 | Around 139 countries/territories worldwide | 1GB/7 days, 3GB/30 days, 5GB/30 days, 10GB/30 days, 20GB/90 days, and 1GB/365 days | A trip where Taiwan is just one stop on a multi-continent route, or a traveller who wants one profile to reuse on future trips too |
| Global (120+ areas) | More than 120 countries/territories worldwide | 1GB/7 days, 3GB/30 days, 5GB/30 days, 10GB/30 days, 20GB/30 days, 20GB/90 days, 1GB/365 days, plus per-day options at 1GB and 2GB a day | A trip that spans beyond Asia, such as Taiwan followed by Europe or the Americas on the same trip |
| Per-day packages | Sit inside the Asia and global families above, but refill the quota every day instead of issuing one lump sum | 500MB, 1GB, 2GB or 3GB a day, depending on the family | Someone whose usage is heavy and even every day — working or filming while travelling — rather than someone alternating rest days with all-day walking days |

How much data a Taiwan trip actually uses
Our planning estimate is roughly 1–2GB a day for a normal tourist mainly using maps, chat and photo uploads. If you stream video or go live during the trip, that figure climbs noticeably higher. This is our own planning estimate, not a measurement from your actual phone.
- 3-day trip: around 3–6GB for the whole trip, so a 5GB package usually fits
- 5-day trip: around 5–10GB for the whole trip, so 10GB usually lands right
- 7-day trip: around 7–14GB for the whole trip; 10GB covers ordinary use, while anyone streaming or going live often should move up to 20GB
- 10-day trip: around 10–20GB for the whole trip, so 20GB leaves more headroom

Why the number lands there for a Taiwan trip
- Maps stay open often between Taipei, Jiufen, Tainan and Hualien, since each city means checking a new route
- Train and bus timetables get checked on the move, since actual times often shift from the printed schedule
- Finding a way around convenience stores and night markets with dense side streets relies on maps more than expected
- Signage and menus in Traditional Chinese get translated with a camera app, since most signs carry no other-language caption

Validity, not the gigabytes, is the real trap
The packages Taiwan appears in carry validities from 7 days and 15 days up to 30, 90 and even 365 days. Always read the gigabytes and the days together, never just one of them — a 5GB package valid for 30 days and a 5GB package valid for 90 days hand you the same quota but suit different trips. Whatever validity you pick, leave at least one day of headroom beyond the days you will actually be there, in case the flight home is delayed.
If you are still unsure how many gigabytes to buy
- 1Look at last month's actual usageOpen your phone's data settings and read the last billing cycle, then divide by 30 for your own daily average.
- 2Add the travel premiumOn the road you lean on maps and translation far more than at home, so add roughly half again to your own average.
- 3Round up to the next package rather than topping up mid-tripIf the maths says 7GB, take 10GB rather than 5GB — topping up mid-trip is usually more hassle than buying the headroom up front.
FAQ
Why is there no Taiwan-only plan?+
Because the supplier's catalogue we resell covers Taiwan only inside its Asia regional packages and global packages — there is no standalone Taiwan line item. Each plan page states exactly which countries it covers.
Is a regional package worse than a country-specific one?+
Not inherently. A regional package is the same kind of roaming arrangement, just bundled across several countries in one contract. Each plan page lists what the supplier actually publishes for it — read that before deciding.
How many gigabytes for a 7-day Taiwan trip?+
By our 1–2GB-a-day estimate, seven days uses roughly 7–14GB. 10GB usually covers ordinary use, while anyone streaming or going live often should pick 20GB.
Visiting both Taiwan and Japan on one trip — which plan should I buy?+
An Asia (12 areas) or (20 areas) package that covers both countries is usually the simplest choice, since one profile runs for the whole trip without switching eSIMs. If Taiwan is the main stop and Japan is just a short add-on, size the package by the total days of the whole trip rather than counting each country separately.
