Thai holidays in May and what they do to fares
May 2027 has two Thai long weekends on the Bank of Thailand list. National Labour Day falls on Saturday 1 May with Monday 3 May as the substitute, and Coronation Day is Tuesday 4 May, so most banks and many offices close Saturday 1 to Tuesday 4 May. Visakha Bucha is Thursday 20 May, and one day of leave on Friday 21 May makes another four-day break.
The early-May break overlaps the end of Japan's Golden Week, when 3 to 5 May are national holidays in Japan, so Japan is the one place in Asia to avoid that weekend. Late May, around Visakha Bucha, is one of the best-value times for Japan and Europe before summer pricing.
Visa notes for Thai passport holders in May
These are the entry rules for the places this page recommends. Rules change, so confirm on the official page before you pay for flights.

When to book for May
- For the 1 to 4 May break, book about three months ahead for Asian routes; it is shorter and less contested than Songkran, but the Saturday morning departures still sell first.
- A late-May Europe trip needs a Schengen visa in hand, and appointment slots fill with summer travellers from April; apply as soon as you can within the allowed window.
- Buy and install the eSIM at home in the days before departure; most plans in our catalogue only start counting days on first connection at the destination, which the plan page states.
Data needs in May
A first Europe trip from Thailand often covers three or four countries in two weeks. A Europe regional plan fits that shape, but the lists in our catalogue differ: when checked on 10 October 2026, one Europe package left out France, so check every country on the route before buying.
