A European summer trip usually crosses more borders than the original plan allowed for — by rail, by ferry and by hire car. This compares a regional plan against several country plans from the point of view of the actual route.

Will one Europe plan cover every country on my trip?+
Check the country list on the plan page first, because the boundary differs by plan: some exclude the United Kingdom, some exclude the Balkans or Türkiye. The safe method is to write out your own list and tick it off line by line before buying.
What if I am mostly in one country but drop into another for two days?+
Two workable options: buy the plan for the main country and add a small one for those two days, or buy a single regional plan and be done. If those two days are light on data, the first is usually cheaper; if you would rather not deal with switching profiles, the second is easier.
Is there any data on a ferry?+
Away from the coast there is usually no land signal. Many ships offer Wi-Fi, but it is limited and shared by everyone aboard. What the phone can latch onto is a maritime network billed separately, so turn data roaming off on the main SIM before boarding.
Should I buy before flying or after landing?+
Buying and installing before you fly is far easier, because installing a profile needs internet and an arrivals hall in summer is a frustrating place to join public Wi-Fi. Actual activation still happens when you land.
