Landing at Phuket International Airport
An island airport at the far north end of the island, and the drive to the beach most people actually stay on is longer than they expect.
Install and enable the line before flying, and it is ready when you land — so you can arrange a car or confirm with your hotel while still inside the terminal, which matters here because pickup points differ by service.

What HKT is like
Phuket is a mid-sized airport taking both domestic and international flights. The building is not large and the walk is short — what follows is a long drive south. Patong is a fair distance away and the southern beaches further still, so data earns its keep on the road rather than inside the terminal.
On arrival
Install and enable the line before flying, and it is ready when you land — so you can arrange a car or confirm with your hotel while still inside the terminal, which matters here because pickup points differ by service.

- Leave the building: Wi-Fi stops
- Train or bus to town
- Hotel
Right after the building is when you most need maps and train timetables, and as this guide explains, the airport Wi-Fi does not follow you out. Install an eSIM before you fly and switch it on at landing, and you have your own data the whole way.
See Thailand plansHow far the airport Wi-Fi gets you
There is terminal Wi-Fi, fine for a message, but it ends at the door. On the drive south there is nothing but the mobile network.
Getting into town
Shared vans, buses to the main beaches and taxis all run from arrivals. Reaching the west-coast beaches takes the better part of an hour at busy times. Signal holds along the main road; the small roads climbing the headlands thin out in patches.
What people ask about this airport
- Download the map before you leave: The hill roads between beaches have thin patches. An offline map of the whole island is small and worth having.
- Confirm the pickup point: A pre-booked car and one hailed on the spot wait in different places; settle which before you walk out.

Getting online at HKT
Will I have signal on the other islands?+
Islands with permanent settlements and accommodation generally have coverage; open water between them drops in and out, which is normal and returns as you near land.
Does one plan cover Phuket and Krabi?+
Yes — both are in Thailand, so a Thailand plan covers both, including the journeys by road and boat between them.
