How much data you actually need
A typical dive trip runs about 400MB to 1GB a day for messages, maps and photos. If you upload high-resolution underwater video every evening, budget closer to 2–3GB a day, and remember that boat days mostly consume data before and after, not during.
When you land
The single gateway is Roman Tmetuchl International (ROR) at Airai on Babeldaob, about twenty minutes from Koror across the bridge, with flights mostly from Manila, Taipei, Guam and Seoul. Many of them land late at night or before dawn, so switch your line on inside the terminal to confirm the pickup with your hotel, and leave time for the Palau Pledge step and the baggage inspection at entry.
Where coverage changes
Coverage is best in Koror, where most of the population lives, and continues in patches through Airai and along the ring road on Babeldaob. Treat the Rock Islands and Jellyfish Lake as offline, along with the boat rides out to Peleliu, Angaur and the outer reefs. The northern atoll of Kayangel and the far southern islands are more remote still. Download maps and booking confirmations before you leave Koror each morning.

What is the Palau Pledge and do I need to prepare for it?+
It is a short promise visitors sign at immigration, printed as a stamp in your passport, committing you to treat Palau's environment and culture carefully. There is nothing extra to prepare — just know the step exists and allow a little time at the counter. Any other entry requirement for your nationality should be checked with the official authorities before you fly, since those rules change independently of the pledge.
Will there be signal on a Rock Islands boat day?+
Plan for none. The boats leave Koror and work through uninhabited limestone islands, so service drops for most of the day and returns as you come back toward town. If you owe someone a reply or are waiting on something important, deal with it before boarding in the morning and tell people at home you will be quiet until evening. During the day, offline maps and the camera are what you will actually use.
My flight lands at 3am — how do I reach my pickup?+
Confirm with your hotel before departure who is collecting you, what the name board will say, and a backup number, then save all of it where you can see it without a connection. When you land, switch the line on inside the terminal and send a short message that you have arrived, because late flights slip and the driver will be working from the time you give them rather than the printed schedule.
When does a Palau eSIM start counting days?+

Do I have to remove my home SIM?+
