When you land
Faleolo International (APW) is the gateway, a bit over thirty kilometres and roughly forty minutes from Apia. Crossing to Savaii is by vehicle ferry from Mulifanua wharf to Salelologa. Get the line running on landing so you can confirm your transfer or rental car, since many flights arrive late at night when everything around the airport is shut.
Where coverage changes
Apia and the north coast road on Upolu are well covered. It thins on the cross-island mountain road, along the south coast between the villages near Lalomanu, and on Savaii across the northern lava fields and the island's interior. The ferry crossing of roughly an hour and a half should also be treated as intermittent.

What is open on a Sunday in Samoa?+
Not much. Shops, markets and most tours close for church. Accommodation stays open and some serve a traditional toonai lunch. Message your hotel ahead to see which meals are available, and buy essentials on Saturday. Villages also hold an evening prayer period when visitors are asked to pause and stay put for a short while.
What should I know before crossing to Savaii?+
The ferry leaves Mulifanua on the west end of Upolu and takes about an hour and a half. If you are taking a rental car across, clear it with the rental company first and arrive early, as vehicle space is limited. Save the timetable offline, because signal at the wharf and on board is unreliable.
Anything to watch out for driving in Samoa?+
Samoa drives on the left with low speed limits, and village roads bring pedestrians, animals and frequent speed humps. Parts of the south coast and the cross-island road have no service, so download offline maps and tell your accommodation roughly when you expect to arrive, in case you are unreachable on the way.
When does a Samoa eSIM start counting days?+
