How much data you actually need
Most visitors get through roughly 500MB to 1.5GB a day: maps along the Leeward Highway, WhatsApp threads with drivers and boat crews, and photos going up after sunset. A day with a long video call home, or a batch of drone footage uploaded from the villa, pushes past 2GB on its own.
When you land
Nearly every arrival lands at Providenciales International (PLS). Grand Turk has JAGS McCartney International (GDT), and there are small strips on South Caicos (XSC), North Caicos (NCA) and Salt Cay (SLX). The other entry points people really use are by sea: the passenger ferry from the marina on Provo across to Sandy Point on North Caicos, and the cruise centre on Grand Turk where ships tie up for a single day ashore. Switch the line on inside the terminal, because the next step is usually calling the driver already waiting outside.
Where coverage changes
Signal is thick along the developed spine of Providenciales — Grace Bay, Leeward, Blue Hills and the length of the Leeward Highway — and around Cockburn Town on Grand Turk. It thins fast once you leave that: Middle Caicos beyond Conch Bar village, the sand tracks out to Mudjin Harbour, uninhabited East Caicos, Salt Cay, and the long boat runs across the Caicos Banks where you can be an hour from the nearest tower. Is there Uber or any ride-hailing in Turks and Caicos?+
There is no ride-hailing app of the kind you are used to. Getting around means licensed taxis charging by zone, and the way people actually book is to take a driver's number and arrange the pickup on WhatsApp in advance, or have the hotel call one. If you rent a car instead, remember the islands drive on the left. Either way your own data is what lets you fix a ride and find your way back to the villa after dark.
Will I still have signal on the ferry to North Caicos or out on a boat trip?+
The first and last part of a crossing usually still picks up the shore, but in the middle of the run — and when the boat anchors out on the reef or on a sandbar in the middle of the bank — you can be offline for an hour at a time. The safe habit is to swap the meeting point and the captain's number while you are still on land, download the map area first, and not schedule an online call for the stretch you spend on the water.
I am only stopping at Grand Turk on a cruise for one day — do I need my own data?+
It helps more than people expect. On a ship day several thousand passengers come ashore at once and all reach for the same bar Wi-Fi near the pier. Your own line lets you book an independent excursion, call a car up to the north-shore beaches, or check your all-aboard time without walking back to the terminal. If you also leave roaming on from your home SIM, check the settings carefully: a ship's satellite service is billed on a completely different basis from the island network.

Do I have to remove my home SIM?+
No. The eSIM is a second line, so you keep your home number for SMS OTP. Turn off roaming data on the home line and set the eSIM as the data line.
