Bahamas eSIM

The Bahamas is not one island but a very spread-out archipelago, and few trips stop at Nassau. Anyone continuing to Exuma, Harbour Island or Abaco is taking a small plane, a fast ferry or a scheduled boat, and those schedules move with the wind and swell from one day to the next. Confirming a crossing, booking a golf cart and checking the forecast all happen on the phone.

Before you buy for Bahamas

Every Bahamas eSIM here is 4G at most; none has 5G. A 5G phone works fine, it simply connects on 4G.

What happens when your GB runs out

A GB plan is a fixed amount of data. When it is used up, data on that eSIM stops and nothing is charged automatically, but you can top up the same eSIM without a new QR code, and check what is left any time from your order page.

Example: plenty left

A mock-up of the data remaining screen, with made-up numbers; the real page shows your own plan. The big number is what is left, the ring shows the share already used, Refresh pulls the latest figure, and below 20% a Running low tag appears with a Top up button for the same eSIM.

How to check your data and top up

How much data you actually need

Most visitors use around 500MB–1GB a day on maps, messages and uploading beach photos in the evening. If you video call home daily, budget closer to 1.5GB a day.

When you land

Lynden Pindling in Nassau (NAS) is the main gateway, followed by Grand Bahama at Freeport (FPO), with Exuma International at George Town (GGT), North Eleuthera (ELH) and Marsh Harbour in Abaco (MHH) serving the Out Islands. Ferries link Nassau with several of them, and cruise ships dock at Nassau and Freeport. Complete the online customs declaration before you reach the desk.

Where coverage changes

Coverage is dense on New Providence — Nassau and Paradise Island — and around Freeport on Grand Bahama. It thins a long way out on the Family Islands: Andros, the smaller Exuma cays, and the northern and southern ends of Long Island. Boat crossings between islands and day trips into the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park are usually out of range for the whole day.

Cities travellers ask about

  • Nassau — Capital and cruise port, with the country's best coverage.
  • Paradise Island — Resort strip beside Nassau, linked by bridge all day.
  • Freeport — Main town on Grand Bahama; solid in the built-up area.
  • George Town — Hub of the Exumas; thins as soon as you leave town.
  • Harbour Island — Pink-sand island where everyone gets around by golf cart.
  • Marsh Harbour — Gateway to the Abacos and the base for boat charters.

Apps to install before you fly

  • The online customs and immigration declaration filed before arrival
  • WhatsApp for boat captains, golf-cart drivers and hosts
  • A marine weather app, since crossings get cancelled on rough days
  • Google Maps with each island you visit downloaded in advance

FAQ

Will I have signal out on the Family Islands?+

Yes in each island's main settlement — George Town in the Exumas, Dunmore Town on Harbour Island — but it disappears for long stretches once you are on the coastal roads, on an empty beach, or on a boat to a smaller cay. Treat any day on the water as offline and clear anything that needs a connection in the morning before you board.

What should I allow for when connecting on a small plane?+

Domestic hops shift with the weather and the passenger load, and airlines usually tell you by message or a direct call, so give a number you can actually be reached on when booking. Save the boarding pass as an image on the phone, and leave at least three hours between a Family Island flight and an international connection through Nassau.

Can I tether on a chartered boat?+

Only while you are still close to shore. A few miles off the island the signal goes and the hotspot stops meaning anything. If the group needs to share a connection during the day, download the offline maps, playlists and documents onto each person's phone before casting off rather than relying on one line.

How do I reach support while in the Bahamas?+

We take support around the clock, every day; message us on LINE at https://lin.ee/skDPoNx (@esimonline), email esimonline.asia@gmail.com, or call 089-942-0818 / 088-521-6848. The time difference from Thailand is large enough that you are often on a different day, and late at night Thailand time a reply can take a little longer, so leave the message with your phone model, OS version and a screenshot — that way the answer comes back complete in one go.

When does a Bahamas eSIM start counting days?+

Most plans here start when the phone first connects to a network at the destination, so you can install in advance at home and switch it on after landing. Each plan page states its own rule.

Do I have to remove my home SIM?+

No. The eSIM is a second line, so you keep your home number for SMS OTP. Turn off roaming data on the home line and set the eSIM as the data line.
