Do Korea, China, Japan, Europe and USA eSIMs work on iPhone and Samsung
Device by destination questions: check eSIM support and carrier lock first, market-variant caveats (such as some China and Hong Kong market models), install path on iPhone versus Samsung, and roaming toggle and network selection notes per destination.

한눈에 보기
- The destination does not decide which phone can use an eSIM. What decides it is your phone's model and version, the market it was sold in and any carrier lock. Many recent iPhone and Samsung models support eSIM, but some models sold in certain markets (such as some for mainland China and Hong Kong) can differ, so check your own phone before buying an eSIM for any destination.
- The fastest way is our device checker and your phone's own Settings screens, then follow the iPhone or Samsung install steps below.
Check before buying: eSIM support and carrier lock
Two conditions apply the same way to every destination. First, the phone must support eSIM. Second, it must not be locked to your original carrier's network. If it is locked, a foreign eSIM may not install or work.
- iPhone: go to Settings > General > About and look at the Carrier Lock line and EID details. See our EID guide.
- Samsung: go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager (menu names can differ by model and version) and see whether there is an option to add an eSIM.
- If unsure about the carrier lock, ask your original operator directly.

Market variants: what to watch for
Some makers sell the same model name in different markets with different hardware. A commonly mentioned example is models sold for mainland China, which may not support eSIM the way international models do, and some models sold in Hong Kong and Macau differ in some respects too, so a model name alone may not be enough.
- Find the full model number in Settings > About and look up that model code's eSIM support on the maker's official site.
- If the phone is second-hand or imported, check both the market it was sold in and any carrier lock.
- If you are unsure, plan a backup such as a physical SIM or pocket WiFi for the trip.

Data roaming and network selection on arrival
A travel eSIM often needs data roaming switched on for the eSIM line to work, but turn off data roaming on your main SIM if you do not want it to incur charges by accident. If it still will not connect, try choosing the network manually as indicated on the plan page.
- 1데이터 회선을 eSIM으로 설정On iPhone choose the eSIM for Mobile Data. On Samsung choose it for Mobile data in SIM manager.
- 2Turn on data roaming on the eSIM lineFollow what the plan page recommends.
- 3Turn off data roaming on the main SIMThis helps avoid accidental charges. See our roaming bill shock guide.
- 4Pick the network manually if neededTurn off automatic network selection and pick the network named on the plan page, or wait a moment and restart the phone.
If you only see an SOS status or the signal keeps dropping, read our guide on eSIM showing SOS or keeps dropping.
