Queensland's northern gateway, with a train straight from the terminal into the city and a long coastal drive waiting at the end of it.
Switch the line on during the taxi in and follow the signs through to the checks; passport control moves briskly and the biosecurity inspection after the belt is the slower half. If you are connecting to a domestic flight, the train that runs under the terminal is the link most people use between the two buildings rather than a road shuttle. The wait at the carousel is the right moment to confirm a rental booking and to work out from the airport's own signage where to collect it. Coverage inside the halls is reliable, and it is the last thoroughly indoor part of the day. After that you are on a platform or a kerb.

Brisbane does two jobs at once: it is a destination in its own right and a staging post for everyone heading further north to the sand and the reef. The international and domestic terminals are separate buildings linked directly by the same train line. A large share of arrivals collect a hire car and drive straight out, up towards the Sunshine Coast or south to the Gold Coast. That means the phone has to be ready to navigate within the first hour, not after a night's sleep.

Free Wi-Fi covers both terminals behind the usual accept page, and in the arrivals hall it does the job. Up on the raised railway platform it starts to break up, and people routinely assume it will follow them onto the train, which it does not. If you need to buy a ticket or show a code in that window, not having your own line turns into a problem immediately. Treat the airport network as something for the twenty minutes you spend waiting for a bag, not as transport infrastructure.
The train from under the terminal reaches the central city in about twenty minutes and is the straightforward option if you are not driving. Taxis and app cars take the motorway and cross the river, which is quick outside the peaks. The genuinely data-hungry part of the day is not the trip into town but the drive north or south afterwards, with the map open for hours at a stretch. Download the coastal route offline before you leave the building, and let your line handle bookings and messages along the way instead. That split keeps the usage sensible without leaving you navigating blind.

The train from beneath the terminal takes about twenty minutes to the centre, while a car depends mainly on the motorway and the river crossing at that hour.
It helps a lot, since you change buildings by train and are watching a train time and a gate at the same time; hall Wi-Fi covers part of that but not the platform.
Along the main highway it mostly holds, but the open stretches between towns go quiet for longer than most people expect, so keep the route saved offline.
You can if the hall Wi-Fi cooperates, but installing before you fly and simply switching it on at landing is far easier than configuring a phone in a crowded arrivals hall.
