Ubigi eSIM review 2026: is it good, and which trips does it suit
A read of what Ubigi publishes: who runs it, plan types, supported devices, activation, refunds and support languages.

Kurz erklärt
- Ubigi is a brand of Transatel, majority-owned by NTT Communications since 28 February 2019, and it sells prepaid data plans with no number, calls or SMS.
- Its published strengths are unlimited plans in 90+ destinations, tethering with no stated restriction, apps for iOS and Android, and Windows 10/11 support.
- Watch-outs: refunds only before the QR is scanned, prices shown in US dollars, and support reportedly covers about 18 languages without Thai (unconfirmed).
This review is based on the brand's published plans, policies and help pages as of October 2026, not on a test trip. Anything we could not confirm on an official page is marked where it appears.

Who runs Ubigi
Ubigi launched in 2017 and is a brand of Transatel, a Paris company that describes itself as an MVNE. Per the published release, NTT Communications completed the purchase of a majority stake in Transatel on 28 February 2019. For a traveller this means a large telecom group stands behind the brand owner. That says something about who is selling, and nothing about how good the signal will be in the city you visit. This site sells eSIMs too, so we disclose that here.
Network model
The sources we have do not list Ubigi's local network in each country, so we cannot say which carrier it uses in Japan, Korea or Taiwan. Open the plan page for your destination and look for the network name. If the page does not say, ask support before buying, because signal quality on a trip follows the carrier the eSIM attaches to.

Tarifarten
| Typ | What is published | Was zu prüfen ist |
|---|---|---|
| Pakete für Prepaid data | Data only, with no number, calls or SMS | The GB size and days of the plan you pick |
| Unbegrenzt | 90+ destinations, full speed up to a threshold then 2 Mbps, with thresholds that vary by destination | The threshold for your country and whether it is on the list |
| Preloaded plan (QR) | Must be activated within 6 months of purchase | The purchase date, if you buy far ahead |
Its unlimited plans say the full-speed threshold changes by destination. Comparing Ubigi with another brand therefore means comparing country by country and not against a single number, and checking the current price for your exact dates.
Supported devices
What we can confirm is an app for iOS and Android and support for Windows 10/11, so laptops are covered. Tablets and cars are not mentioned in our sources, so do not assume them. Check the supported-device list in Ubigi's help centre.
If your phone is tied to a carrier, check for a lock before paying, because Ubigi does not refund locked phones.

Activation and refunds
- 1Buy the plan and get the QRThe QR is valid for 6 months from purchase.
- 2Install on the deviceInstall through the phone app, or follow the guide for Windows.
- 3Let Smart Start runThe plan starts on arrival in a covered area, or immediately if you are already there.
Keep your Thai SIM for bank OTP texts, because Ubigi is data only and has no number.
Language and support
The listed channels are a contact form, chat on the website and a WhatsApp assistant called Ubi. A search snippet reports about 18 languages without Thai. That is unconfirmed on an official page, so open the help page and check for yourself. If you need to talk in Thai, a seller with a Thai team is easier.

Pros and cons
Vorteile
- Transatel and NTT Communications are named openly as the owners
- Unlimited plans in 90+ destinations, with tethering allowed without restriction as published
- Windows 10/11 support for people who work on a laptop
- Smart Start counts days from arrival
Nachteile
- No number, calls or SMS
- Refunds only before the QR is scanned, and none for locked phones
- Prices in US dollars
- Support reportedly has no Thai (unconfirmed)
On pricing models, Ubigi offers fixed-GB plans and unlimited plans with a daily threshold. A short trip that only needs maps and chat is often fine on a fixed-GB plan. A longer trip with work over a hotspot is where unlimited starts to make sense, and you should read whether 2 Mbps after the threshold is enough for your work. Video calls often need more than that.
Für welche Reisen es passt
On regions where Ubigi is strongest, our sources give only the number: unlimited plans in 90+ destinations. We will not say it is stronger in Asia or Europe. Check that your country is on the list and what the full-speed threshold is.
- Trips with heavy data use and hotspot to a laptop, if the country is on the unlimited list
- Trips where you do not need a local number and keep a Thai SIM for OTP
- Trips where you can contact support comfortably in English
If you want to pay in baht, get a QR by email, or have Thai support, look at other sellers too. This site is one option. See also the guide “eSIM providers compared 2026”.
Before you pay, run through three checks: is the destination on the list, is your device free of carrier locks and eSIM-capable, and will the QR be scanned on the right day. Once scanned, it cannot be refunded.
