What Kraków is like on a phone

Kraków is a base more than a destination people stay put in: out on a trip by day, back to the great square in the evening. Cold winters also drain the battery faster than your plan assumed.

• Podgórze and Zabłocie — South of the river, where several important museums sit in old factory buildings whose thick walls weaken what gets inside; load your ticket before you go in.
• Nowa Huta — A planned industrial-era district out to the east; the avenues are enormous, outdoor reception is good, and the tram gets you there without fuss.

Day trips out of the city

• Wieliczka Salt Mine — The tour drops tens of metres below ground and keeps you there for hours; treat the whole visit as offline and save your ticket and return times on the device before you step into the lift.
• Oświęcim — A memorial site where putting the phone away and following the site's own rules comes before anything else. The bus or train out and back is normally connected, but admission and booking arrangements change, so check the site's official notices before you travel.
• Zakopane and the Tatra mountains — Trails and deep valleys here run without continuous service, so always download offline trail maps before you leave your accommodation. Understand as well that an emergency call does not work the same way a data session does — what to rely on is the official guidance from the park authority and the mountain rescue service.
