Ask what is available when you book, carry a high-capacity power bank and a car charger, and download whatever you want for the evening before you leave the city.

If you are heading far west or deep into the Gobi, ask your operator whether the vehicle carries emergency communication equipment, and agree check-in windows for when you pass a town with service. For ordinary trips along the main routes, offline maps, a power bank and an agreed contact schedule are enough.
