What documents do you need, and how much money must be in your account?
The Department of Home Affairs asks applicants to show they are a genuine visitor with enough money for the stay. It does not publish one fixed account balance, so prepare evidence that tells the whole story of the trip and answer every question truthfully.

- An employment letter and leave approval, or proof of study
- Itinerary, accommodation and planned tourist activities
- Ties to Thailand, such as job, family or property

How do you lodge online and give biometrics at VFS?
The Australian Embassy in Bangkok says every applicant in Thailand must complete biometrics unless exempt. Online lodgement is the main route and postal lodgement is not accepted.

When should you apply, how long does it take, and how long can you stay?
Home Affairs publishes a global visa processing times page, updated monthly. The figures are estimates, not guarantees, so apply well ahead of any plans.
The Tourist stream allows stays of up to 12 months, while the help text says grants are generally 3 or 6 months and sometimes 12. Each case is decided individually and the period may be shorter than requested, so ask for what your trip really needs.
Do not leave this until the last minute. Some papers take time to obtain, such as an employment letter or older bank statements, and biometrics depend on appointment slots at the centre. Also keep file names and scans tidy so uploads go through the first time, and keep a copy of every answer you gave in the form.
How do you check an electronic visa on VEVO, and what are conditions 8503 and 8501?
The visa is linked electronically to the passport you declared. The Embassy says you do not need a copy of the grant notice to enter or leave, but you should check the visa on VEVO, online or in the myVEVO app, and travel on the same passport.

Every step runs on a phone or computer: the biometrics email, document uploads and VEVO checks. Keep the email and number you used reachable, and keep your Thai SIM for bank OTPs with data roaming off.
On arrival, check that your handset supports Triple Zero (000) calls over VoLTE. Networks can block phones that do not, and no SIM or eSIM fixes that; check with Telstra or AMTA. Wi-Fi still works. Download offline maps because remote areas have no coverage.
