APN settings: what they are and when you must type one in
Most of the time you never touch it, but when data refuses to start it is one of the first things to check.

- An APN is the access point name that tells the phone which gateway to use; most plans set it automatically.
- If you must enter one, use only the value your seller supplied; never copy one from a forum thread.
After a profile installs, the phone asks the network for its connection settings, the APN among them. Normally you never see this happen. Trouble appears when the value arrives empty or gets overwritten by a leftover entry from another SIM.
Symptoms that point at the APN
- The phone shows a network name and signal bars, yet nothing loads
- The 4G or 5G icon appears but every app hangs
- Toggling airplane mode changes nothing
Work through it in this order
- Confirm the eSIM is selected as the data line
- Turn data roaming on for the travel profile
- Restart the phone once
- Only then open the APN screen and enter the value your seller gave you
- Save and restart again

Delete only the entry belonging to that travel profile. Leave your home SIM's entry alone or your home data may fail when you return.
