eSIM shows SOS or keeps dropping: how to fix it
Symptom-led fixes for SOS only, Samsung No service and intermittent drops: choosing the right line, roaming toggle, manual network, airplane-mode cycle and when to contact support.

한눈에 보기
- If you see SOS or No service, check in order: line on, set as the cellular data line, data roaming on for the eSIM line, cycle airplane mode, then try selecting the network manually and restart. An SOS indicator usually refers to your home SIM line having no signal in that country, not a broken eSIM, because a travel eSIM is data-only and has no phone number.
- Intermittent drops usually relate to weak coverage, automatic network switching or battery saver. Try each fix in turn, and if it persists, contact support with your phone model, location and time.
Why does it say SOS? Read the symbol correctly first
The words SOS or SOS only in the corner of the screen mean the phone is not registered on a network for any line, though emergency calls may still be possible through other networks where the country allows it. The catch is that it shows the phone's overall state, not which line has the problem. If you have a home SIM and a travel eSIM together, open the cellular settings and look at each line separately.

SOS or No service: work through this order
- 1Turn the eSIM line on and set it as the data lineOpen cellular settings (or SIM manager on Samsung), confirm the eSIM line is on and choose it for cellular or mobile data. Menu names vary by model.
- 2eSIM 회선의 데이터 로밍 켜기A travel eSIM needs data roaming on to work, while your home SIM should keep it off. See turn-data-roaming-on-off for the steps.
- 3Cycle airplane modeTurn airplane mode on, wait a moment, then off, so the phone searches for networks again. You can repeat it once or twice.
- 4Choose the network manuallyIn the eSIM line's menu, turn off automatic network selection and pick a network the plan supports from the list. If unsure which, check the plan page or your order. See wrong-network-selected-manual-fix.
- 5Restart the phone and update the systemRestart the phone, and if a carrier settings or system update is pending, install it when you have WiFi.

Samsung shows No service
On Samsung, No service usually appears when the selected line is not registered on a network or its roaming is off. Menus differ by One UI version, but the idea is the same.
- Settings > Connections > SIM manager: confirm the eSIM is on and chosen for mobile data.
- Settings > Connections > Mobile networks: turn on Data roaming for the eSIM line.
- Mobile networks > Network operators: turn off automatic selection and choose a network the plan supports, or switch back to automatic if manual does not help.
- If still stuck, switch the eSIM line off and on again in SIM manager, then restart.

Keeps dropping: common causes
| 증상 | 예상 원인 | 시도해볼 방법 |
|---|---|---|
| Drops in lifts, underground trains or deep buildings | Naturally weak coverage | Wait until you leave the area, cycle airplane mode and use accommodation WiFi or offline maps when needed |
| Drops and returns by itself | Phone hopping between networks automatically | Try choosing one network manually where signal is good |
| Drops when the screen is off | Battery saver or background data restrictions | Turn off battery saver and allow background data for essential apps |
| Connected but pages will not load | Data may be used up, or wrong data line chosen | Check usage on your order page and confirm the data line is the eSIM |
Dropout patterns and what to try
If it drops while you travel between cities or countries, remember a plan only covers the countries it lists. Across a border the network may change or not be covered at all. See multi-country-trip-data.

Be careful before deleting and reinstalling
Do not delete the eSIM profile from the phone just because the data drops. Most eSIM QR codes can be used to install only once, so after deleting you may not be able to reinstall. Try the settings fixes first, and contact support before removing the profile. For the normal installation steps, see how-to-install-esim.
When to contact support and what to prepare
If you have tried everything and still see SOS or have no data in an area where others have signal, contact support. We support Thai, English and Chinese. Details that help solve it faster:
- Your order number or the email used, and the phone model with its system version.
- Country, city and time of the problem, and the network name your phone shows.
- A screenshot of the eSIM line's cellular settings (status, roaming and data line).
- What you have already tried, so steps are not repeated.
자주 묻는 질문
Does SOS on my phone mean the eSIM is broken?+
Not necessarily. SOS often just means the line shown, such as your home SIM abroad, is not on a network. Look at the eSIM line's status separately and test whether a web page loads.
How do I fix Samsung No service with an eSIM?+
Turn the eSIM on in SIM manager, choose it for mobile data, switch data roaming on for that line, cycle airplane mode, try selecting the network manually and restart.
Why does my eSIM data keep dropping?+
Common causes are weak coverage in the area, automatic network switching, battery saver or used-up data. Try the table in this guide one item at a time.
Should I delete the eSIM and reinstall it?+
Not yet. Most QR codes install only once. Try the settings fixes first and contact support before removing the profile.
Will turning on data roaming for the eSIM add charges?+
Our plans are prepaid as shown on the plan page. Roaming on the eSIM line is simply required for it to work, while your home SIM should keep roaming off to avoid charges from your usual operator.
Is SOS normal at the airport or on the plane?+
It can happen, because you may not yet be in the plan's coverage or the phone has not registered. Try after landing with roaming on for the eSIM line. See airport-arrival-connectivity.
