Should I buy before flying or after arriving?+
Buying and installing before departure is better in almost every case, because installation itself needs an internet connection and doing it on home Wi-Fi is when you have the most time and the most options if something goes wrong. Activation can wait until arrival. Check first when that plan's validity starts counting, since some begin at the first network attach.
Is the smallest plan always the cheapest outcome?+
No. If it is small enough to run out mid-trip, you buy again at a moment when you cannot compare anything, and the total is usually higher. A better route is to estimate from the usage statistics already on your phone, subtract what will happen on Wi-Fi, choose a size near the remainder, and check whether that plan supports top-ups.
Is an unlimited plan better value on a tight budget?+
It depends on how heavily you use data and on what that specific plan's terms say. Plans described as unlimited normally carry fair-use conditions, and the details differ from plan to plan. If your usage is moderate, a well-sized capped plan is usually better value. Read the terms of the individual plan before deciding.
