Should four people buy one large plan or four separate ones?+
It depends on whether the group will split. If you are together nearly all the time and someone is willing to let their phone be the host, one larger plan usually works out better. But if even one day is planned apart, or if someone must stay reachable, at least two people should have their own connection. That hybrid usually settles better than either extreme.
Does sharing burn the allowance much faster than solo use?+
Noticeably faster, and usually faster than people expect. It is not only the number of users: attached devices often treat a hotspot as ordinary Wi-Fi and begin backing up photos, updating apps and syncing cloud storage without anyone asking. Setting every device to back up on Wi-Fi only and disabling automatic updates before you travel helps more than upgrading the plan.
Whose phone should do the sharing?+
Judge on three things: the best battery, the person who stays with the group rather than wandering off alone, and someone who is not already hammering their own phone. Rotate daily, because the host carries both the battery and the heat load; leave it on one device for the whole trip and that device will be unusable every evening.
What if one person uses far more than everyone else?+
The cleanest answer is to give that person their own plan, which resolves both the volume and the sense of an unfair split. The alternative is to agree upfront that the heavy activities — live streaming, uploading video — happen on accommodation Wi-Fi. Having that conversation before departure is far easier than having it when the allowance is nearly gone.
Do all plans allow sharing?+

What works is estimating per person by user type, adding a margin for the background syncing of attached devices, then checking the remaining balance on day one or two.
