What PDP authentication failure means, and how to fix it
What the "PDP authentication failure" message actually means, a real troubleshooting sequence to work through, why toggling airplane mode helps, and when the profile genuinely needs to be reissued by support.

En bref
- PDP authentication failure is the message a phone shows when it fails to negotiate a data session with the network. It is usually caused by wrong or missing APN settings, data roaming being switched off, or a plan or profile that has not actually been activated on the network side yet, even though installation itself finished.
- Toggling airplane mode on and off helps often because it forces the modem to drop every connection and re-register with the network from scratch, giving the data session a chance to be renegotiated correctly after whatever went wrong the first time.
- If you have worked through every step and it still will not connect, contact support with the profile's SM-DP+ address or ICCID, because sometimes the profile genuinely needs to be reissued on the supplier's side — something you cannot fix yourself.
What is a PDP authentication failure?
PDP stands for Packet Data Protocol, the mechanism a phone uses to negotiate a data session with a mobile network. When that negotiation fails, the device shows a message such as "PDP authentication failure", and mobile data stops working even though the signal bars themselves may still look normal.
The three most common causes are: first, the APN (access point name) the phone is using does not match what the eSIM provider specifies; second, data roaming on the eSIM line is switched off, so the network simply refuses the request from that SIM; and third, the plan or profile has been "installed" on the phone but has not actually been "activated" on the network side yet — those are two separate steps.

Work through this fix sequence
- 11. Check the APN matches what the provider specifiesOpen the eSIM line's mobile network settings and compare the APN name against what your confirmation email or plan page states. Do not guess it or copy the APN from your home Thai SIM — each provider uses its own value.
- 22. Confirm data roaming is switched onMost travel eSIMs work by roaming onto a local network. If the data roaming switch for that eSIM line is off, the network will reject the PDP request outright, regardless of whether the APN is correct.
- 33. Confirm the plan is actually activated, not just installedA successful installation does not mean the plan is activated. Some plans only start their validity, and switch on at the network, the first time you connect in the destination country. Check the status in your confirmation email or order page.
- 44. Toggle airplane mode on for ten seconds, then offThis forces the modem to drop and re-register with the network, giving the PDP session a fresh chance to negotiate correctly.
- 55. Restart the deviceA restart clears more of the modem and network state than airplane mode alone can, in case something got stuck.
- 66. Remove and reinstall the profile as a last resortOnly do this if you still hold the original QR code or activation code and it has not already been consumed, since most profiles cannot be reinstalled from the same code once deleted. If in doubt, contact support before removing it.

Pourquoi basculer le mode avion aide vraiment
Switching airplane mode on immediately drops the modem's connection to every cell tower. Switching it off forces the modem to register with the network again from the beginning, which includes negotiating an entirely fresh PDP session. If the original session broke because of a temporary glitch on the network side — rather than a wrong APN or roaming being off — that fresh registration often clears it without you having to do anything else.

Quick reference: SM-DP+ and ICCID
SM-DP+ is the server address the phone contacts to download the profile at install time — it is not directly part of the PDP session, but support may ask for it to check the profile was issued correctly. See the full definition at the SM-DP+ glossary entry.
ICCID is the identifier attached to that specific SIM profile (as distinct from the EID, which identifies the eSIM chip in the device), used to pinpoint exactly which profile or plan you mean. See the full EID, IMEI and ICCID comparison at the EID glossary entry.

When to contact support
Contact support with your order number, phone model, the country you are in now, the profile's SM-DP+ address or ICCID (found on your order page), and a screenshot of the error message — that combination lets the team check and reissue the profile fastest.
Questions fréquentes
How is PDP authentication failure different from having no signal at all?+
No signal means the phone cannot find a tower at all. PDP authentication failure usually shows up even while the signal bars look normal, because the phone has already found a network but the data-session negotiation itself fails — so the fix targets a different point in the chain.
Why would I need to set the APN myself when it is usually filled in automatically?+
Normally the phone picks up the APN straight from the eSIM profile. But some devices or firmware versions do not pull the full set of values, or a leftover APN from the home SIM gets used instead. In those cases you have to enter the value the eSIM provider specifies yourself.
How long should I wait before concluding this needs support to fix?+
If you have worked through every step above and still see the error after fifteen minutes, treat that as the point to contact support — there is no need to keep retrying beyond that.
Is it safe to delete and reinstall the profile myself?+
Only if the original QR code or activation code has not already been used, since most profiles are tied to a single installation. If you delete it after the code has already been consumed, you cannot reinstall from that same code — contact support first if you are unsure.
Where do I find the SM-DP+ address and ICCID?+
Both appear in your order confirmation email and on your order page. The ICCID can also be read off the device itself, from that eSIM line's settings screen.
Why does my phone say "no SIM" or "no SIM card"?+
In roughly the order they are worth checking: first, the eSIM profile is not installed correctly or was accidentally deleted (if the original QR code or activation link is still valid, delete and reinstall it; if it has already been used, contact support for a reissue). Second, that eSIM line is not selected as the active line in the phone's settings. Third, airplane mode is switched on. Fourth, for a physical SIM: the card may be inserted upside down or not seated properly, or the tray is loose. Fifth, and rarest, the SIM itself is damaged or there is an account-level issue on the carrier's side.
