SMS codes will not, because those messages are addressed to the Thai number alone. Codes delivered through a bank app or an authenticator keep working as normal. If removing the SIM is unavoidable, move your critical accounts to another channel before you travel.
Does leaving the Thai line switched on cost anything while I travel?+
That depends on your Thai operator's rates. Receiving messages and receiving calls are generally charged differently, and terms vary between operators, so check the roaming rates with yours before you fly. The part you can control for certain is turning data roaming off on that line so no data is used unintentionally.
The bank says the code was sent but nothing reaches my phone.+
First check that the Thai line still shows a network name, then toggle airplane mode once to re-register. If ordinary messages arrive but bank ones do not, it is usually the commercial messaging route, which cannot be fixed from where you are. Use your fallback channel and raise it with the bank when convenient.
Should I move every bank account to an authenticator app?+
Use it for the accounts that support it and that you sign into most, but always keep backup codes off the phone, because losing the handset with the app on it locks you out completely. Some banks do not offer the option at all, and that is the bank's decision rather than anything to do with your phone or plan.
I changed phones mid-trip and the authenticator codes are gone. What now?+
Use the one-time backup codes you stored before travelling to get in, then bind the app again on the new handset. Without those codes you have to go through each provider's identity checks, which is much slower from abroad, and is exactly why the codes are worth storing in the first place.
