Will my phone ticket work when there is no signal?+
Yes, provided you opened it in the app or saved it as a file while you still had signal. The usual failure is opening the app for the first time exactly when the conductor arrives and the train happens to be in a tunnel or a valley. Load the ticket fully while you are still on the platform and keep a screenshot as a second copy.
Should I buy the monthly nationwide transport pass?+
It depends on how much regional rail and city transport you actually use. If you are moving between cities and riding public transport daily, the monthly option sold inside the Deutsche Bahn app usually beats single tickets. If your trip is mostly long-distance high-speed trains, that pass does not cover them, so read the conditions in the app before deciding.
Can I pay by card everywhere in Germany yet?+
Not everywhere. Small restaurants, bakeries, market stalls and some cafés still take cash only, or only domestic debit cards. Carry a reasonable amount of euro cash, especially outside the big cities, and check the sign at the door before ordering. For train tickets and larger shops, card or phone payment works normally.
When does a Germany eSIM start counting days?+
Most plans here start when the phone first connects to a network at the destination, so you can install in advance at home and switch it on after landing. Each plan page states its own rule.
Do I have to remove my home SIM?+
No. The eSIM is a second line, so you keep your home number for SMS OTP. Turn off roaming data on the home line and set the eSIM as the data line.
